1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the Mac Allister MSDD12-Li 12V Cordless Drill Driver. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new tool. Please read this manual thoroughly before first use and keep it for future reference.
The Mac Allister MSDD12-Li is designed for drilling into wood, metal, and plastics, and for driving screws. Its compact and lightweight design makes it suitable for working in confined spaces and for overhead applications. The integrated LED light enhances visibility in poorly lit areas.
2. General Safety Instructions
Always observe basic safety precautions when using electric tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Keep this instruction manual with the tool.
Work Area Safety
- Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
Electrical Safety
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
Personal Safety
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool.
- Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
- Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.
- Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

4. Setup
4.1 Charging the Battery
- Ensure the battery is clean and dry before charging.
- Connect the charger to a suitable power outlet.
- Slide the 1.5 Ah Li-ion battery into the charger. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
- The charger indicator light will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes 60 minutes.
- Once fully charged, disconnect the charger from the power outlet and remove the battery.
Note: The lithium battery guarantees high autonomy at full power and consistent performance until a recharge is necessary.
4.2 Installing and Removing the Battery
- To Install: Align the battery with the base of the drill handle and slide it in until it clicks into place. Ensure it is firmly seated.
- To Remove: Press the battery release button (usually located on the side or front of the battery pack) and slide the battery out of the handle.
4.3 Installing and Removing Drill Bits/Screwdriver Bits
The drill driver features a keyless chuck for quick and easy bit changes.
- Ensure the drill is switched off and the battery is removed for safety.
- Hold the rear part of the chuck firmly with one hand.
- Rotate the front part of the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws.
- Insert the desired drill bit or screwdriver bit into the chuck jaws. Ensure the bit is centered.
- Rotate the front part of the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws securely around the bit. Hand-tighten firmly.
- To Remove: Reverse the process by rotating the front part of the chuck counter-clockwise to loosen the jaws and pull the bit out.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Powering On/Off and Speed Control
- To Turn On: Press the trigger switch. The speed of the drill is variable and controlled by the amount of pressure applied to the trigger.
- To Turn Off: Release the trigger switch.
5.2 Forward/Reverse Rotation
A forward/reverse selector switch is located above the trigger. This switch controls the direction of rotation for drilling and screwdriving/unscrewing.
- Push the selector to the left for forward rotation (for drilling and tightening screws).
- Push the selector to the right for reverse rotation (for removing screws).
- When the selector is in the center position, the trigger is locked, preventing accidental starting. Always set the switch to the center position when not in use or when changing bits.
5.3 Torque Settings
The torque adjustment collar allows you to select the appropriate torque setting for screwdriving applications and a drill mode for drilling. Rotate the collar to align the desired setting with the indicator mark on the drill body.
- Lower torque settings are for smaller screws or softer materials to prevent overtightening or stripping.
- Higher torque settings are for larger screws or harder materials.
- The drill symbol setting is for drilling applications, providing maximum torque without clutch engagement.
5.4 Integrated LED Light
The integrated LED light automatically illuminates when the trigger is pressed, providing improved visibility of the work area, especially in dimly lit environments.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your tool.
- Cleaning: Keep the ventilation slots of the tool clean to prevent overheating. Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.
- Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not store fully discharged batteries for extended periods.
- Storage: When not in use, store the drill driver, battery, and charger in the provided nylon carry bag in a dry, secure location out of reach of children.
- Inspection: Periodically check for damaged parts. If any part is damaged, have it repaired by a qualified service technician before further use.
