Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the vacuum sealer from its packaging. Retain all packaging materials for future transport or storage.
- Placement: Place the unit on a stable, level surface. Ensure adequate ventilation around the machine.
- Power Connection: Connect the power cord to a grounded 110V, 20 AMP electrical outlet.
- Filler Plates: The unit comes with filler plates. These can be placed inside the chamber to reduce the volume of air to be evacuated, leading to faster vacuum times and stronger vacuums, especially for smaller items.

Control Panel Overview
Video 1: A demonstration of the VacMaster VP220, highlighting its size, sealing capabilities, and the maintenance-free dry pump. The video shows the control panel and how to operate the machine for various sealing tasks.
The control panel features a pressure indicator, digital display for time settings, and buttons for STOP, SET, and arrow keys for adjustment. The power switch is located on the side of the unit.
Basic Operation
- Power On: Turn on the main power switch located on the side of the unit. The digital display will illuminate.
- Prepare Bag: Place the item(s) to be sealed into a compatible vacuum bag. Ensure the open end of the bag is clean and dry.
- Position Bag: Lay the open end of the bag flat across the seal bar inside the chamber. Ensure the bag is smooth and extends beyond the seal bar.
- Close Lid: Firmly close the lid. The vacuum process will automatically begin once the lid is fully closed and sealed.
- Monitor Process: The pressure gauge will indicate the vacuum level. The digital display will show the remaining time for the vacuum, sealing, and cooling cycles.
- Open Lid: Once the cycle is complete, the lid will automatically release. Remove the sealed bag.
Adjusting Settings
Press the SET button to cycle through and adjust the following parameters using the arrow keys:
- Vacuum Time: Adjust the duration for vacuum extraction. Longer times are suitable for larger volumes or denser items. Shorter times are for fragile items to prevent crushing.
- Seal Time: This depends on the bag thickness. For standard 3 MIL chamber sealer bags, 1.5 seconds is typically sufficient. Thicker bags (4 MIL, 5 MIL, or 7 MIL mylar bags) may require longer seal times (e.g., 2.6 seconds for mylar).
- Cooling Time: This allows the seal bar to cool down between cycles, preventing overheating and damage to the bags or components, especially during continuous use. A setting of 3 seconds is standard.
Special Considerations
- Liquids and Marinades: The VP220 can vacuum package liquids and liquid-rich foods like soups, sauces, and marinades. If liquids start to bubble excessively during vacuuming, press the STOP button to immediately seal the bag and open the chamber.
- Bag Compatibility: The VacMaster VP220 can double seal a wide variety of bags, including 3 MIL, 4 MIL, 5 MIL, and 7 MIL mylar bags.

Maintenance
The VacMaster VP220 features a maintenance-free air pump that does not require oil changes, simplifying upkeep. However, regular inspection and occasional replacement of wear-and-tear parts are recommended.
- Seal Bar Wire: The unit comes with backup seal bar wires. If the existing wire burns out or becomes damaged, it can be easily replaced by sliding it out and inserting a new one.
- Teflon Tape: A backup teflon tape for the seal bar is included. Replace it if the original tape shows signs of wear or burning to ensure consistent, strong seals.
- Cleaning: Regularly wipe down the chamber and exterior with a damp cloth. Ensure the chamber is dry before closing the lid for storage.

Image 5: Step-by-step guide for easy sealing and maintenance. It shows filling a pouch, pressing start and closing the lid, opening the lid to check the seal, and the included maintenance kit (double-sided tape, fuses, seal wire, hex key, and screwdriver).
Troubleshooting
- Poor Seal: Check the seal bar wire and teflon tape for damage. Ensure the bag is clean, dry, and properly positioned across the seal bar. Adjust the seal time if necessary.
- Incomplete Vacuum: Ensure the lid is fully closed and sealed. Check for any obstructions in the chamber or around the bag. Verify the vacuum time setting.
- Liquids Bubbling Up: If liquids boil or bubble excessively, use the STOP button to initiate sealing prematurely. Consider using filler plates to reduce chamber volume or pre-freezing liquids slightly.
