The reel is identified as a Size 05 model.

  • 24-inch Ultralight Rod: Features a fast action for quick response and sensitivity, suitable for light tackle fishing.
  • Solid Carbon Rod: Constructed from solid carbon for enhanced strength and sensitivity, allowing detection of even the slightest bites.
  • High-Quality 2-Piece Reel Seat: Ensures a secure connection between the rod and reel.
  • Instant Anti-Reverse: Provides immediate hook sets without any back play in the reel handle.
  • Changeable Retrieve: The reel handle can be configured for either right-hand or left-hand retrieve.
  • Front-Adjustable Drag: Allows for easy and precise drag adjustments during a fight.

Setup Instructions

  1. Assemble the Rod:

The Glacier X Combo rod is a single-piece design. Ensure all guides are aligned straight along the rod blank.

  2. Attach the Reel:
Quantum Glacier X Combo rod handle and reel seat assembly. The reel is securely attached to the carbon rod handle.

This image shows the Quantum Glacier X Combo reel properly mounted onto the rod's carbon handle. The reel foot is inserted into the reel seat, and the locking nut is tightened to secure it in place, ensuring a stable connection for fishing.

Loosen the reel seat locking nut on the rod handle. Insert the foot of the reel into the reel seat. Tighten the locking nut securely until the reel is firmly in place and does not wobble.

  3. Spooling the Line:

If your reel is not pre-spooled, attach your fishing line to the reel spool using an arbor knot. Fill the spool with line, leaving approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) from the spool lip to prevent tangles. The recommended line weight for this combo is 4 pounds.

  4. Thread the Line:

Open the bail of the reel. Thread the line through all the rod guides, starting from the guide closest to the reel and ending at the tip guide. Close the bail.

  5. Adjust Retrieve Hand:

The reel handle can be switched for right or left-hand retrieve. To change, unscrew the handle from one side, remove it, and insert it into the opposite side, then screw it in firmly.

Operating Instructions

Casting

  1. Prepare for Cast: Hold the rod with the reel beneath your dominant hand. Use your index finger to hold the line against the rod handle. Open the bail with your other hand.
  2. Backswing: Bring the rod tip up and slightly behind you, allowing the lure or bait to hang about 6-12 inches from the rod tip.
  3. Forward Cast: Swiftly bring the rod forward, aiming at your target. Release your index finger from the line as the rod reaches a 10 o'clock position.
  4. Retrieve: Once the lure or bait lands, close the bail manually or by turning the handle. Begin reeling in the line at your desired speed.

Drag Adjustment

The front-adjustable drag system controls the tension on the line when a fish pulls. Turn the drag knob clockwise to increase tension and counter-clockwise to decrease tension. Set the drag so that line can be pulled off the reel with moderate effort, preventing line breakage while allowing the fish to run.

Maintenance

  • Rinse After Use: After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the rod and reel with fresh water to remove salt, dirt, and debris. Avoid spraying water directly into the reel's internal components.
  • Dry Thoroughly: Allow the rod and reel to air dry completely before storage.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts and grease to gears. Refer to a general reel maintenance guide for specific lubrication points.
  • Inspect Line and Guides: Regularly check your fishing line for fraying or damage. Inspect rod guides for cracks or sharp edges that could damage the line.
  • Storage: Store your combo in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

Problem: Line tangles or bird's nests during casting.
Solution:
  • Check for overfilling the spool. The line should be about 1/8 inch from the spool lip.
  • Ensure proper casting technique, releasing the line smoothly.
  • Inspect the line for twists; re-spool if necessary.
  • Check rod guides for damage or misalignment.
Problem: Reel handle is stiff or difficult to turn.
Solution:
  • Rinse the reel thoroughly with fresh water to remove dirt or salt.
  • Apply reel oil to the handle shaft and other moving parts.
  • Check for any foreign objects obstructing the gears.
Problem: Drag slips or is inconsistent.
Solution:
  • Ensure the drag knob is tightened appropriately for your fishing conditions.
  • Clean the drag washers if they are contaminated with dirt or grease.
  • If the problem persists, the drag washers may need replacement.
