Understanding Search Modes

The Equinox 800 features multiple search modes optimized for different detecting conditions:

Use the Mode button to cycle through these options. Each mode has specific settings that can be further adjusted.

Basic Operation

  1. Ground Balance: Perform an automatic ground balance by pressing the Ground Balance button () and pumping the coil up and down over clear ground until a stable threshold is achieved. This calibrates the detector to the soil conditions.
  2. Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity using the + and - buttons. Start with a moderate setting and increase it for deeper detection, or decrease it if experiencing excessive false signals.
  3. Discrimination: Use the Discrimination button () to accept or reject certain target IDs. This helps filter out unwanted trash items.
  4. Sweeping the Coil: Hold the coil parallel to the ground and sweep it slowly from side to side, overlapping each sweep. Maintain a consistent height above the ground.
  5. Pinpointing: When a target is detected, press the Pinpoint button () to narrow down the target's exact location. Move the coil slowly over the target area until the strongest signal is found.
