Setup and Installation

1. Unpacking

Carefully remove the griddle from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Retain all packaging materials until you are sure the unit is in working order.

2. Placement Requirements

The Le Griddle GFE105 is designed for outdoor use only. It can be used as a built-in unit in a custom outdoor kitchen or as a tabletop griddle.

  • Ensure adequate clearance from combustible materials. Refer to local building codes for specific requirements.
  • Place the griddle on a stable, non-combustible surface.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the unit.

3. Gas Connection

This griddle is convertible for use with either Natural Gas (NG) or Liquid Propane (LP). The necessary orifices for conversion are included.

  1. Ensure the gas supply is turned off before making any connections.
  2. Connect the gas supply line to the griddle's inlet. Use appropriate gas-rated sealant on all threaded connections.
  3. If converting fuel type, follow the detailed instructions provided in the separate conversion kit manual. This process typically involves replacing burner orifices and adjusting the regulator.
  4. After connection, turn on the gas supply and check all connections for leaks using a soapy water solution. Bubbles indicate a leak. Tighten connections until no bubbles appear.

4. Ignition System Setup

The griddle features a battery-operated ignition system.

  1. Locate the battery compartment, typically near the ignition button.
  2. Insert the required battery (usually AA or AAA, check compartment for type) with correct polarity.
  3. Test the igniter by pressing the ignition button; you should hear a clicking sound and see a spark at the burner electrodes.

Operating Instructions

1. Before First Use

Before using your griddle for the first time, wash the cooking surface with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. Lightly coat the cooking surface with a high-smoke-point cooking oil (e.g., flaxseed oil, grapeseed oil) and heat the griddle on low for 15-20 minutes to season the surface. This helps create a non-stick layer and protects the griddle.

2. Lighting the Griddle

  1. Ensure the gas supply is turned on.
  2. Push in and turn a control knob counter-clockwise to the "HIGH" position.
  3. Immediately press and hold the ignition button. You should hear a clicking sound and the burner should ignite.
  4. Once ignited, release the ignition button. If the burner does not light within 5 seconds, turn the control knob to "OFF", wait 5 minutes for gas to dissipate, and repeat the process.
  5. Repeat for other burners as needed.

3. Temperature Control

The Le Griddle GFE105 features independent control knobs for each of its three burners, allowing for precise temperature zones across the cooking surface. Adjust the knobs between "LOW" and "HIGH" to achieve desired cooking temperatures.

4. Cooking Tips

  • Preheat the griddle for 10-15 minutes before cooking to ensure even heat distribution.
  • Use a small amount of oil or butter on the cooking surface to prevent sticking.
  • For best results, avoid overcrowding the griddle.
  • Clean the griddle surface with a griddle scraper or spatula between batches of food to remove debris.

5. Shutting Down

When finished cooking, turn all control knobs to the "OFF" position. Turn off the gas supply at the source (e.g., propane tank valve or natural gas shut-off valve).

Maintenance and Care

1. Cleaning the Griddle Surface

For optimal performance and longevity, clean the griddle surface after each use while it is still warm (but not hot enough to cause burns).

  1. Scrape off any food residue with a griddle scraper or metal spatula into the grease tray.
  2. Pour a small amount of water onto the warm surface to deglaze and loosen stubborn residue.
  3. Wipe clean with a paper towel or cloth.
  4. Once cool, apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the surface to maintain seasoning and prevent rust.

2. Cleaning the Exterior

Clean the stainless steel exterior with a mild soap and water solution and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can scratch the finish. Wipe dry immediately to prevent water spots.

3. Storage

If storing the griddle for an extended period, ensure it is thoroughly cleaned and dried. Apply a protective layer of cooking oil to the griddle surface. Store in a dry, covered area, ideally with a protective cover (e.g., the included vinyl cover) to shield it from elements.
