1. Introduction

The Digitek DSBH-055 Soft Box is a lightweight and portable lighting accessory designed to provide soft, diffused light for various photography applications. It is compatible with all flash speedlights and includes an S2 type bracket and two diffuser sheets to enhance light quality. This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your soft box.

2. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to correctly assemble your Digitek DSBH-055 Soft Box.

2.1 Unfolding the Soft Box

1. Remove the soft box from its carrying case.
2. Gently unfold the soft box. It is designed for quick opening and folding. Apply even pressure to extend the rods until the soft box takes its octagonal shape.

2.2 Attaching the S2 Type Bracket

3. Locate the S2 Type Bracket. This bracket is designed to securely hold your flash speedlight and attach to a light stand.
4. Insert the soft box's mounting ring into the S2 Type Bracket. Ensure it clicks into place or is securely fastened according to the bracket's mechanism.
5. Mount the assembled soft box and bracket onto a compatible light stand. Tighten the locking knob on the bracket to secure it to the light stand.

2.3 Installing the Flash Speedlight

6. Open the clamp on the S2 Type Bracket.
7. Slide your flash speedlight into the bracket's mounting area. The S2 bracket is compatible with both regular and round-shaped flashes.
8. Secure the flash by tightening the clamp on the S2 Type Bracket. Ensure the flash is firmly held to prevent accidental dislodgement.

2.4 Attaching Diffuser Sheets

9. The soft box comes with two diffuser sheets: an inner diffuser and an outer diffuser. These are attached via Velcro strips inside the soft box.
10. Attach the inner diffuser first, aligning its Velcro edges with the corresponding strips inside the soft box.
11. Next, attach the outer diffuser to the front opening of the soft box, ensuring it is taut and evenly spread.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Basic Operation

• Positioning: Place the soft box on a light stand at the desired height and angle relative to your subject. Experiment with different positions to achieve the desired lighting effect.
• Flash Settings: Adjust your flash speedlight's power output and zoom settings as needed for your shooting environment and subject. The soft box will diffuse the light, making it softer and more even.
• Using Diffusers: The two diffuser sheets work together to soften the flash light and reduce harsh shadows. You can experiment with using only one diffuser (inner or outer) or both to control the level of diffusion.

4. Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will extend the lifespan of your Digitek DSBH-055 Soft Box.

4.1 Cleaning

• Soft Box Fabric: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior of the soft box. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth with mild soap can be used, followed by a dry wipe. Ensure the fabric is completely dry before folding and storing.
• Diffuser Sheets: The diffuser sheets can be gently hand-washed with mild soap and water if they become dirty. Rinse thoroughly and air dry completely before reattaching or storing.
• S2 Type Bracket: Wipe the bracket with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust and grime. Avoid using harsh chemicals that may damage the finish.

4.2 Storage

• To fold the soft box, gently reverse the unfolding process. Ensure all rods are collapsed and the fabric is neatly folded to prevent creasing.
• Store the soft box, S2 bracket, diffuser sheets, and any other accessories in the provided carrying case.
• Keep the carrying case in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

5.1 Uneven Light Output

• Issue: Light appears uneven or has hot spots.
• Solution:
  • Ensure both inner and outer diffuser sheets are properly installed and taut.

  • Verify that the flash's zoom setting is appropriate for the soft box size (usually a wider setting is preferred).

  • Apply gentle, even pressure when opening or closing. Avoid forcing the mechanism.
  • Ensure no fabric is caught in the folding mechanism.
  • If the mechanism feels stiff, check for any obstructions or damage to the rods.

5.3 Soft Box Not Secure on Light Stand

• Issue: The soft box wobbles or feels unstable on the light stand.
• Solution:
  • Ensure the S2 Type Bracket is fully inserted onto the light stand's spigot.
  • Tighten all locking knobs on the S2 Type Bracket and the light stand securely.
  • Verify that the light stand itself is stable and its legs are fully extended.
