5. Setup
5.1 Placement
Position the subwoofer on a stable, flat surface. The unit is equipped with a pole mount on top, allowing for the placement of a satellite speaker (not included) directly above it for an integrated sound system. The two side handles facilitate easy transport and positioning.
5.2 Connections
Refer to Figure 3 for the rear panel layout.
- Input: Connect your audio source (mixer, DJ controller, etc.) to the subwoofer using either the balanced XLR combo inputs or the stereo RCA inputs. The XLR combo input accepts both XLR and 1/4" TRS connectors.
- Output:
- Full Range XLR Output: Use these outputs to send the full audio signal to other subwoofers or full-range speakers.
- Filtered XLR Output (High Pass): These outputs provide an audio signal with frequencies above 100Hz (up to 20KHz), ideal for connecting to satellite speakers to prevent them from reproducing low bass frequencies.
- Stereo RCA Output: Provides a stereo RCA signal for connecting to other devices.
- Power: Connect the power cable to the AC IN port and then to a suitable power outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Power On/Off
After all connections are made, switch the power button to the ON position. The power-on indicator light will illuminate.
6.2 Controls
The rear panel (Figure 3) features the following controls:
- Volume Knob: Adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer. Start with a low volume and gradually increase it.
- Crossover Knob (40Hz-160Hz): Sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. Frequencies above this setting will be sent to the filtered XLR outputs. Adjust this to blend seamlessly with your main speakers.
- Phase Switch (0°-180°): Allows you to invert the phase of the subwoofer's output. This is useful for optimizing bass response when using multiple subwoofers or when the subwoofer is positioned at a different distance from the main speakers. Experiment with both settings to find the best sound.
- Indicators: Power-on and max volume (clip) indicators provide visual feedback on the unit's status and signal level. If the clip indicator frequently illuminates, reduce the volume to prevent distortion and potential damage.
6.3 Typical Usage
The PR18 is ideal for enhancing the low-frequency response of any PA system. For optimal performance, ensure the subwoofer's crossover frequency is set appropriately relative to your main speakers. For example, if your main speakers handle frequencies down to 80Hz, set the subwoofer's crossover to around 80-100Hz.

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your PRORECK PR18 subwoofer.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the subwoofer. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the subwoofer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Inspection: Periodically check all cables and connections for any signs of wear or damage.
- Housing: The plywood housing with special impact-resistant material is designed for durability. Avoid dropping or subjecting the unit to severe impacts.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your PRORECK PR18 subwoofer, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power:
- Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the subwoofer and a working power outlet.
- Check the power switch on the rear panel is in the 'ON' position.
- Verify the power outlet is functional by plugging in another device.
- No Sound:
- Check all audio input and output cables are correctly and securely connected.
- Ensure the volume knob on the subwoofer is turned up.
- Verify the audio source (mixer, controller) is sending a signal and its volume is adequate.
- Check the crossover and phase settings. Incorrect settings might lead to perceived lack of bass.
- Distorted Sound:
- Reduce the volume on the subwoofer and/or the audio source. The clip indicator should not be constantly lit.
- Ensure all cables are in good condition and not damaged.
- Rattling Noise:
- Check for loose screws on the grille or amplifier mount. Tighten if necessary.
- Ensure no external objects are vibrating against the subwoofer cabinet.
If the issue persists after following these steps, please contact PRORECK customer support.
