The Rode VideoMic NTG is a broadcast-grade, feature-packed shotgun microphone designed for on-camera use, but also highly versatile for various recording applications. It incorporates the revolutionary acoustic design of the NTG5 broadcast shotgun microphone, delivering exceptional transparency and natural sound reproduction. This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your VideoMic NTG to ensure optimal performance.

Setup

1. Charging the Battery

The VideoMic NTG has an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Before first use, fully charge the microphone.

  1. Connect the supplied USB-C to USB-C cable to the USB-C port on the microphone.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to a USB power source (e.g., computer USB port, USB wall adapter).
  3. The power indicator LED will show charging status. It will turn solid green when fully charged.

2. Mounting the Microphone

The VideoMic NTG comes with an SM7-R camera mount, which features a Rycote Lyre suspension system to minimize handling noise.

  1. Slide the cold shoe mount of the SM7-R into your camera's hot shoe or a compatible accessory mount.
  2. Tighten the locking wheel on the SM7-R to secure it in place.
  3. Ensure the microphone is firmly seated in the Rycote Lyre suspension.

3. Connecting to Devices

The VideoMic NTG features an auto-sensing 3.5mm output and a USB-C output for broad compatibility.

When using the VideoMic NTG as a USB microphone, the 3.5mm jack functions as a headphone output for direct monitoring.
