4. Setup and Installation

The LiftMaster 78LM control panel is designed for wall mounting near your garage access door. It requires a hardwire connection to your garage door opener system.

4.1 Compatibility

This control panel works with all Security+ Systems (code rotating) from LiftMaster and is also compatible with Chamberlain, Sears, Craftsman Master, Mechanic Garage Master, Wayne-Dalton, and Raynor, and all other Security+ type garage door openers manufactured since 1995 with red, orange, and purple learn buttons.

4.2 Installation Steps

  1. Power Disconnection: Before beginning installation, ensure the power to your garage door opener is completely disconnected at the circuit breaker.
  2. Mounting Location: Choose a convenient location inside your garage, typically near the access door, at a height that is easily accessible.

  6. Testing: Test the functionality of the control panel by pressing the main button to open/close the garage door and the light button to control the opener's light.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Opening and Closing the Garage Door

  • To open or close the garage door, press the large, illuminated main push button.
  • Pressing the button again while the door is in motion will stop the door.

5.2 Controlling the Opener Lights

  • To turn the garage door opener lights ON or OFF independently of the door operation, press the LIGHT button.
  • The adjustable light timer allows you to pre-set the duration the light stays on after activation. Refer to your garage door opener's manual for instructions on adjusting this timer, as it is typically controlled by the opener unit itself.

5.3 Secure Lock Function

  • To disable all outside remote control radio signals for increased security (e.g., when you are away), press the LOCK button.
  • To re-enable remote control signals, press the LOCK button again.
