Operating Your File Cabinet
Opening and Closing Drawers:
The drawers are designed with smooth-glide suspension for easy opening and closing. Pull the handle gently to open a drawer and push it firmly to close. The drawers feature a 3/4 extension to prevent tipping when opened.
Using the Lock:
The cam lock secures both drawers simultaneously. Insert the key into the lock cylinder located on the front of the cabinet, usually between the two drawers. Turn the key to lock or unlock the drawers. Remove the key after locking to prevent unauthorized access.
Mobility:
The four casters allow for easy movement of the cabinet. Simply push or pull the cabinet to reposition it as needed. Note that the casters do not have individual locks.
Care and Maintenance
To maintain the appearance and functionality of your Lorell file cabinet, follow these simple care instructions:
- Cleaning: Wipe the painted steel surface with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
- Drawer Slides: Periodically check the drawer slides for any debris or obstructions that might hinder smooth operation. Clean as necessary.
- Casters: Ensure casters are free of hair or debris to maintain smooth rolling.
Troubleshooting
Drawers are difficult to open/close:
- Check for any items obstructing the drawer slides or caught within the drawer.
- Ensure the cabinet is on a level surface. Uneven surfaces can affect drawer alignment.
- Verify that the lock is fully disengaged.
Cabinet feels unstable or tips easily:
- Ensure the cabinet is placed on a flat, stable surface.
- Avoid opening both drawers simultaneously. For stability, open only one drawer at a time.
- Distribute the weight evenly within the drawers. Heavy items should ideally be placed in the bottom drawer.
Casters are not rolling smoothly:
- Inspect casters for any accumulated debris (e.g., hair, lint) and remove it.
- Ensure casters are securely attached to the cabinet base.
