Velleman VM130N

Velleman VM130N 2-Channel RF Remote Control Set

Instruction Manual

Introduction

The Velleman VM130N is a compact universal receiver and transmitter set designed for wireless control of electronic devices. This version is an enhanced model of the VM130 set, featuring an integrated LED flashlight on the transmitter. It provides reliable control with a maximum range of 30 meters in unobstructed environments.

The VM130N is compatible with other Velleman RF products, including the VM108 2-channel RF code transmitter and the VM109 2-channel RF transmitter and receiver set.

Setup

Receiver Installation

The receiver unit is designed for fixed installation. Ensure it is placed in a location where it can receive signals from the transmitter without excessive interference.

  • Power Supply: Connect the receiver to a power source of 9 to 13 Vac or 10 to 15 Vdc. A 24 V supply is possible if additional components are used (refer to detailed wiring diagrams in the full manual, if available).
  • Device Connection: The receiver features two NO/NC (Normally Open/Normally Closed) relay contact outputs. Connect the electronic devices you wish to control to these contacts. Each output can handle an ohmic load of up to 5 A.
  • Antenna: Connect the external antenna to the designated terminal on the receiver for optimal range.
  • Mounting: The receiver unit has mounting holes for secure installation.

Transmitter Setup

The transmitter is powered by a 12V battery, which is included. It comes pre-programmed with a unique 32-bit code, offering over 1,000,000,000 unique combinations for enhanced security. The code can be easily changed if required.

Pairing Transmitters (Learning Mode)

The receiver can store up to 31 different transmitters. Refer to the detailed instructions for entering the receiver's learning mode and pairing new transmitters. This process typically involves pressing a button on the receiver and then activating the transmitter to register its unique code.

Operating

Receiver Functions

  • Output Mode: Each of the two relay outputs can be configured for either a toggle function (press once to activate, press again to deactivate) or a pulse function (activates for a set duration).
  • Pulse Timer: When the pulse function is selected, a switch-off timer can be set to durations of 0.5s, 5s, 30s, 1 min, 5 min, 15 min, 30 min, or 60 min.
  • LED Display: The receiver features an LED display that indicates the current status, power supply, and timer activity.
  • Cold Environment Heating: An internal heating resistance can be selected for operation in cold environments to ensure optimal performance.

Transmitter Functions

  • Remote Control: Pressing the buttons on the transmitter sends a 433 MHz RF signal to the paired receiver, activating the configured output.
  • Command Indicator: An LED on the transmitter illuminates to confirm that a command has been sent.
  • LED Flashlight: The transmitter includes an integrated LED flashlight for convenience.

Maintenance

Transmitter Battery Replacement

The transmitter is powered by a 12V battery. If the LED command indicator dims or the operational range decreases significantly, it is likely time to replace the battery. Open the transmitter casing carefully, replace the old battery with a new 12V battery of the same type, and reassemble.

Cleaning

Clean the receiver and transmitter units with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the casing or internal components.

Cold Environment Heating

If the receiver is installed in an environment where temperatures frequently drop below freezing, ensure the internal heating resistance option is enabled to maintain optimal performance and prevent condensation.

Troubleshooting

  • No Response from Receiver:
    • Check if the receiver is correctly powered.
    • Verify the transmitter battery. Replace if necessary.
    • Ensure the transmitter is within the 30-meter range and there are no significant obstacles blocking the signal.
    • Confirm the transmitter is correctly paired with the receiver.
  • Reduced Operating Range:
    • Check the transmitter battery level.
    • Ensure the receiver's external antenna is properly connected and positioned.
    • Minimize physical obstructions between the transmitter and receiver.
    • Check for potential RF interference from other devices operating on the 433 MHz frequency.
  • Incorrect Output Function:
    • Review the receiver's settings to ensure the correct toggle or pulse function is selected for the desired output.
    • If using the pulse function, verify the timer setting is appropriate.
