- Wood Chisels
- Measuring Tape or Ruler
- Pencil
- Screwdriver (Phillips head)
- Mallet (optional)
5. Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of the bathroom lock:
- Marking the Door: Determine the desired height for the lock. Mark the center line on the edge of the door and extend it onto both faces of the door.
- Mortising for the Lock Body: Using the technical drawing as a guide, mark the dimensions of the lock body on the door edge. Carefully chisel out the mortise to the correct depth, ensuring a snug fit for the lock body.
- Drilling for Spindle and Turn: Mark the positions for the spindle hole (for the handle) and the turn mechanism hole on the door face, aligning with the lock body. Drill these holes accurately.
- Fitting the Lock Body: Insert the lock body into the mortise. Ensure it sits flush with the door edge. If the latch bolt direction needs to be reversed, refer to the manufacturer's specific instructions; do not open the lock case.
- Attaching the Faceplate: Mark the outline of the faceplate on the door edge. Chisel out a shallow recess so the faceplate sits flush. Secure the faceplate with the provided screws.
- Installing the Strike Plate: Close the door and mark the position of the latch bolt on the door frame. Using the strike plate as a template, mark its outline and the recess for the latch bolt. Chisel out the recess and secure the strike plate with screws. Ensure the latch bolt engages smoothly without obstruction.
- Final Checks: Operate the lock several times to ensure smooth function of the latch bolt and the turn mechanism. Adjust the strike plate if necessary for optimal performance.

6. Operation
The Carlisle Brass BAE5030 EASI-T Bathroom Lock operates as follows:
- Opening the Door: Turn the door handle to retract the latch bolt.
- Closing the Door: Push the door shut. The spring-loaded latch bolt will automatically engage with the strike plate.
- Locking the Door: From inside the bathroom, rotate the turn mechanism (thumbturn) to extend the deadbolt, securing the door.
- Unlocking the Door: From inside, rotate the turn mechanism back to retract the deadbolt. From outside, use the emergency release mechanism (if fitted to your handle set) to unlock the door.
7. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and smooth operation of your lock:
- Cleaning: Wipe the visible parts of the lock (faceplate, strike plate) with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of graphite powder or a silicone-based lubricant to the latch bolt mechanism and the internal moving parts (if accessible without disassembly) to maintain smooth action. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust.
- Inspection: Regularly check all screws for tightness and ensure the lock operates freely.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Latch bolt does not retract fully. | Misalignment, debris, or lack of lubrication. | Check alignment of lock body and strike plate. Clean and lubricate the mechanism. |
| Door does not latch securely. | Strike plate misalignment or worn latch bolt. | Adjust the strike plate position. If the latch bolt is worn, consider replacing the lock. |
| Turn mechanism is stiff. | Lack of lubrication or internal obstruction. | Lubricate the turn mechanism. Ensure no debris is obstructing movement. |
| Lock feels loose in the door. | Loose fixing screws. | Tighten all fixing screws on the faceplate and strike plate. |
