The Mind - Extreme Instruction Manual

Model: NSV 4091

Introduction

Welcome to The Mind - Extreme, an advanced cooperative card game by NSV. This game challenges players to work together silently, using only intuition and observation to play cards in ascending and descending order simultaneously. It builds upon the original The Mind game, introducing new layers of complexity and excitement.

Components

The Mind - Extreme game set includes the following components:

  • Number Cards: A deck of cards numbered 1 to 100.
  • Level Cards: Cards indicating the current game level.
  • Life Cards: Cards representing the team's remaining lives.
  • Shuriken Cards: Special action cards.
  • Blind Cards: Special level cards for advanced play.

Setup

  1. Player Count: The Mind - Extreme is designed for 2 to 4 players.
  2. Shuffle Number Cards: Thoroughly shuffle all number cards (1-100) to form a single draw pile.
  3. Prepare Level Cards: Arrange the Level Cards in ascending order. The number of levels played depends on the number of players.
  4. Distribute Lives and Shurikens: Each player receives a certain number of lives and shuriken cards based on the player count and chosen difficulty.
  5. Starting Hand: For the first level, each player receives one number card. The number of cards dealt increases with each subsequent level.

Operating (How to Play)

The core objective of The Mind - Extreme is for players to collectively play all their number cards in ascending order into two separate discard piles simultaneously, without any verbal communication. The "Extreme" variant introduces two discard piles and "blind" levels.

Gameplay Overview:

  • No Communication: Players must not communicate verbally or through gestures about their cards.
  • Two Discard Piles:
    • One pile must be played in ascending order.
    • The other pile must be played in descending order.
  • Playing Cards: Players play cards from their hand onto either the ascending or descending pile whenever they feel it is the right time.
  • Mistakes: If a player plays a card and another player holds a lower card (for the ascending pile) or a higher card (for the descending pile) that should have been played first, the team loses a life. All players holding such cards must discard them.
  • Shuriken Cards: A player can propose using a Shuriken card. If all players agree by placing their hand on the table, each player discards their lowest (or highest, depending on the pile) card, providing a moment of relief. This costs one Shuriken card.
  • Blind Levels: Some levels are designated as "blind." In these levels, players must play their cards face down. Only after all cards for that pile are played are they revealed to check for errors.
  • Winning a Level: If all players successfully play all their cards without losing all lives, the team advances to the next level.
  • Winning the Game: The team wins if they successfully complete all designated levels.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity of your The Mind - Extreme game, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Storage: Store cards in their original box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Handling: Handle cards with clean, dry hands to prevent dirt and oils from accumulating.
  • Cleaning: If cards become slightly dirty, gently wipe them with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using water or chemical cleaners.
  • Avoid Bending: Do not bend or crease the cards, as this can damage them and make them identifiable during play.

Troubleshooting

Here are some common questions and solutions for The Mind - Extreme:

  • Difficulty Understanding Rules: Review the "Operating (How to Play)" section carefully. It is recommended to play a few practice rounds without penalty to get a feel for the game's unique communication style.
  • Frequent Loss of Lives: This is common in The Mind - Extreme. Focus on observing other players' hesitations and confidence. Try to anticipate when others might play their cards. Consider using Shuriken cards more strategically.
  • Cards Sticking Together: If cards are new, they might stick slightly. Shuffle them thoroughly before each game. If they are old and worn, consider replacing the game.
