  • Ensure your motorcycle is parked on a stable, level surface.
  • Confirm your motorcycle is compatible with the backrest and that you have the correct docking hardware (Part # 53803-06) installed.
  • Inspect all components of the backrest for any signs of damage.

4.3 Installation Steps

The AUFER Detachable Passenger Backrest Sissy Bar is designed for quick installation and removal. The following steps outline the general procedure:

  1. Prepare Motorcycle: Ensure the motorcycle is off and stable. If you do not have the required docking hardware installed, refer to your motorcycle's service manual or the docking hardware instructions for proper installation. The backrest attaches to these docking points.
  2. Position Backrest: Align the latch clips on the bottom of the backrest with the docking points on your motorcycle's fender struts.
  3. Engage Latches: Gently push the backrest down and forward until the latch clips fully engage with the docking points. You should hear or feel a click as they lock into place.
  4. Verify Security: Once installed, firmly pull upwards on the backrest to ensure it is securely attached and does not wobble.
  5. Removal: To remove, disengage the latch clips (usually by pulling a lever or pressing a button, as shown in the 'Premium Latch Clip' image) and lift the backrest off the docking points.

6. Care and Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and appearance of your backrest, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning the Pad: The PU leather pad is waterproof and easy to clean. Use a damp cloth with mild soap and water to wipe down the surface. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Metal Components: Periodically inspect the metal frame and latch mechanisms for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Clean with a soft cloth. The black finish is rust-resistant, but proper care helps maintain its integrity.
  • Fasteners: Regularly check all bolts and fasteners to ensure they are tight. Re-tighten if necessary to prevent loosening due to vibration.
  • Storage: If detaching the backrest for storage, keep it in a dry, clean environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your AUFER Detachable Passenger Backrest Sissy Bar, consider the following:

  • Backrest Does Not Fit: Double-check the compatibility section (Section 2) to ensure your motorcycle model and year are supported. Verify that you have the correct docking hardware (Part # 53803-06) installed. The backrest will not fit if the incorrect docking hardware (e.g., Part # 53804-06) is used or if your motorcycle is an Ultra or Classic model.
  • Backrest Feels Loose: Ensure the latch clips are fully engaged with the docking points. Inspect the docking hardware on your motorcycle for any damage or wear that might prevent a secure fit.
  • Difficulty Detaching: Ensure the release mechanism on the latch clips is fully actuated before attempting to lift the backrest. Do not force the backrest off.
