- 2x Spacers
4. Setup and Connections
Before making any connections, ensure all audio equipment is powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet.
4.1 Front Panel Overview

Figure 4.1: Front panel of the Monoprice SS-Pro 12. Shows the "AMP A/B" selector button and twelve individual speaker zone buttons labeled 1 through 12.
- AMP A/B Button: Selects between Amplifier A and Amplifier B inputs.
- Speaker Zone Buttons (1-12): Activates or deactivates the corresponding speaker pair.
4.2 Rear Panel Overview

Figure 4.2: Rear panel of the Monoprice SS-Pro 12. Shows input terminals for two amplifiers (AMP A, AMP B), output terminals for twelve speaker pairs (PAIR 1-12), and a rotary switch for "NUMBER OF SPEAKER PAIRS" with settings 3-4, 5-8, 9-12.
- Amplifier Inputs (AMP A, AMP B): Connect your amplifier outputs here. Use high-quality speaker wire.
- Speaker Outputs (PAIR 1-12): Connect your speaker pairs here. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
- Number of Speaker Pairs Rotary Switch: Adjust this switch to match the total number of speaker pairs you intend to connect and use simultaneously. Settings typically include 3-4, 5-8, and 9-12. This setting is crucial for proper impedance matching and amplifier protection.
4.3 Connection Procedure
- Prepare Speaker Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 inch (1.2 cm) of insulation from the ends of all speaker wires.
- Connect Amplifiers: Connect the speaker outputs from your primary amplifier to the "AMP A" inputs on the SS-Pro 12. If using a second amplifier, connect its outputs to the "AMP B" inputs. Ensure correct polarity. The snap-in connectors allow for easy and secure wire termination.
- Connect Speakers: Connect each pair of speakers to the corresponding "PAIR" outputs (e.g., Living Room speakers to PAIR 1, Kitchen speakers to PAIR 2, etc.). Maintain correct polarity for each connection.
- Set Impedance Switch: On the rear panel, set the "NUMBER OF SPEAKER PAIRS" rotary switch to the position that corresponds to the total number of speaker pairs you will be using. For example, if you plan to use 6 pairs of speakers, set the switch to "5-8".
- Power On: Once all connections are secure, plug in and power on your amplifiers and audio sources.
5. Operating Instructions
The Monoprice SS-Pro 12 is designed for straightforward operation.
- Select Amplifier Source: Press the AMP A/B button on the front panel to toggle between Amplifier A and Amplifier B as your audio source. The selected amplifier will be active for all enabled speaker zones.
- Activate Speaker Zones: Press the individual speaker zone buttons (1 through 12) to turn on or turn off the corresponding pair of speakers. A button that is pressed in typically indicates the zone is active.
- Adjust Volume: Volume control is managed by your connected amplifier(s) and individual speaker volume controls (if applicable). The SS-Pro 12 does not have its own volume control.
- Simultaneous Use: You can activate multiple speaker zones simultaneously. The impedance matching circuitry will ensure safe operation for your amplifier, provided the "NUMBER OF SPEAKER PAIRS" switch on the rear is correctly set.
6. Maintenance
The Monoprice SS-Pro 12 requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays.
- Ventilation: Ensure the unit has adequate ventilation. Do not block any ventilation openings.
- Environment: Keep the unit away from excessive heat, humidity, and direct sunlight.
- Connections: Periodically check all speaker wire connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
