Product Overview

The Electro-Harmonix Nano Operation Overlord is a compact, mono overdrive and distortion pedal designed for guitar, bass, and keyboards. It offers a wide range of tones from subtle boost to saturated distortion, featuring a versatile 3-band active EQ and a dry blend control for maintaining instrument clarity.

Setup and Connections

Before connecting the pedal, ensure your amplifier and instrument are turned off. Use high-quality instrument cables for optimal signal integrity.

1. Power Connection: Connect a 9V DC power supply (EHX 9.6DC-200mA recommended) to the 9V power jack located at the top of the pedal. The pedal requires 50mA of current.

2. Instrument Input: Connect your instrument (guitar, bass, or keyboard) to the INPUT jack on the right side of the pedal.
3. Amplifier Output: Connect the OUTPUT jack on the left side of the pedal to your amplifier's input.
4. Optional Boost Footswitch: An external footswitch can be connected to the BOOST FSW jack for remote activation of the Boost mode.
5. Input Level Switch: Adjust the 3-position INPUT LVL switch (HI, NORM, LO) to match your instrument's output level.
   • HI: For low-output instruments or for maximum gain.
   • NORM: Standard setting for most instruments.
   • LO: For high-output instruments to prevent input clipping.

Operating the Pedal

The Nano Operation Overlord features intuitive controls to shape your desired overdrive and distortion tones.

Controls:

• VOL (Volume): Controls the overall output level of the pedal.
• DRY (Dry Blend): Mixes a clean, unaltered signal with the distorted signal. This is particularly useful for bass and keyboards to retain low-end and harmonic content.


The Dry Blend control is essential for preserving the instrument's original tone while adding overdrive.

• GAIN: Adjusts the amount of overdrive and distortion. Higher settings produce more saturated tones.
• TREBLE, MID, BASS (Active 3-Band EQ): These controls allow for precise tone shaping.
  • Turning a knob clockwise boosts the corresponding frequency band.
  • Turning a knob counter-clockwise cuts the corresponding frequency band.
  • The EQ is active, providing significant tonal flexibility.

Modes: Normal and Boost

The pedal features two distinct modes, switchable via the BOOST button or an external footswitch.

• Normal Mode: Utilizes three amp-like JFET gain stages to deliver low to medium gain sounds, offering a natural, tube-like overdrive.
• Boost Mode: Engages an additional pedal-style overdrive circuit before the JFET stages, significantly increasing overall distortion and saturation for heavier tones.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Nano Operation Overlord pedal:

• Keep the pedal clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
• Avoid exposing the pedal to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
• Always use the correct power supply (9V DC, center-negative, 50mA minimum).
• Disconnect power when the pedal is not in use for extended periods.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Nano Operation Overlord, consider the following:

• No Sound:
  • Check all cable connections (instrument, amplifier, power).
  • Ensure the power supply is correctly connected and functioning.
  • Verify your instrument and amplifier are working correctly by bypassing the pedal.
• Weak or Distorted Sound (unintended):
  • Check the INPUT LVL switch setting. If your instrument has high output, switch to LO.
  • Ensure the GAIN and VOL knobs are set appropriately.
  • Test with a different power supply to rule out power issues.
• Excessive Noise/Hum:
  • Ensure you are using a regulated 9V DC power supply.
  • Check for ground loops in your setup.
  • Move the pedal away from other electronic devices that might cause interference.

Warranty and Support

Electro-Harmonix provides a warranty for your product against defects in materials or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. To qualify for warranty service, you must submit your warranty card within 10 days of purchase, either by mail or online registration.

In the event that your unit requires repair under warranty, please ship the unit securely packed, postage prepaid, and insured to Electro-Harmonix. Include a copy of your proof of purchase and any applicable handling charges as specified in the instruction sheet for the unit. All other charges for parts and labor will be covered by Electro-Harmonix.

This warranty does not cover batteries (which are replaced at the customer's expense) or any unit that has been opened and/or modified by the consumer. To expedite the repair process, include a brief note describing the problem as specifically as possible.
