4. Setup

4.1 Attaching the Side Grip

1. Loosen the side grip clamp by turning it counter-clockwise.
2. Slide the side grip onto the barrel of the hammer.
3. Adjust the grip to a comfortable and secure position.
4. Tighten the side grip clamp by turning it clockwise until it is firmly secured.

4.2 Installing the Depth Gauge

1. Insert the depth gauge into the hole on the side grip.
2. Adjust the depth gauge to the desired drilling depth. The distance from the tip of the drill bit to the end of the depth gauge determines the drilling depth.
3. Ensure the depth gauge is securely positioned before operation.

4.3 Installing/Removing Drill Bit or Chisel

1. Clean the shank of the drill bit and apply a small amount of grease.
2. Pull back the chuck cover and insert the drill bit into the chuck until it clicks into place.
3. Release the chuck cover. Pull on the drill bit to ensure it is securely locked.
4. To remove, pull back the chuck cover and pull out the drill bit.

4.4 Attaching the Dust Collection Unit

The dust collection unit is typically pre-attached. If removal or re-attachment is necessary, align the unit with the designated slots on the hammer body and push until it locks securely. Ensure the dust box is properly seated.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Selecting the Operation Mode

Rotate the mode selector switch to choose the desired operation:

• Rotation Only: For drilling in wood, metal, or plastic without hammering.
• Hammer Drilling: For drilling in concrete, masonry, or stone.
• Hammering Only: For chiseling, chipping, or demolition work.

Caution: Do not rotate the mode selector switch while the tool is running.

5.2 Starting and Stopping Operation

• To start the tool, pull the trigger switch.
• To stop the tool, release the trigger switch.
• For continuous operation, pull the trigger switch and then press the lock-on button. To stop, pull the trigger switch again.

5.3 Variable Speed Control

The tool features variable speed control. The speed increases with increased pressure on the trigger switch. This allows for precise control depending on the material and application.

5.4 Using the Dust Collection System

6.1 Cleaning the Tool

6.2 Dust Collection Unit Maintenance

1. Emptying the Dust Box: Regularly empty the dust box when it becomes full. Detach the dust box from the unit and dispose of the collected dust responsibly.
2. Cleaning the Filter: The HEPA filter inside the dust collection unit should be cleaned periodically. Tap the filter gently to dislodge dust or use compressed air (from the clean side) to blow out accumulated dust. Do not wash the filter with water unless specified by Makita.
3. Filter Replacement: Replace the HEPA filter if it becomes damaged or if suction performance significantly decreases even after cleaning. Refer to Makita's official parts for replacements.

6.3 Carbon Brush Inspection

The motor utilizes carbon brushes. Inspect them regularly for wear. When they are worn down to the limit mark, replace both carbon brushes simultaneously. Only use genuine Makita replacement carbon brushes.
