1. Introduction

The PAC Audio AP4-TY13 (R.2) Amplifier Integration Interface is designed to simplify the installation of aftermarket amplifiers in select 2018 and newer Toyota and Lexus vehicles equipped with 24-pin and 30-pin premium amplified sound systems. This interface allows for the retention of factory features such as warning chimes, navigation prompts, Bluetooth, and telematics audio, while providing a clean, high-quality audio signal for your aftermarket amplifier.

2. Product Overview

The AP4-TY13 (R.2) interface provides variable volume, fade, balance, bass, mid, and treble audio settings. It includes front, rear, and sub preamp outputs (5-volt) for comprehensive audio system upgrades. 3. Installation Guide

Important Safety Note: Before beginning any installation, disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts and damage to the vehicle's electrical system. Professional installation is recommended.

  1. Disconnect Battery: Disconnect the negative battery terminal of your vehicle.
  2. Access Factory Radio: Carefully remove the factory radio from the dashboard to access its wiring harness. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific panel removal instructions.
  3. Connect Interface Harness: Connect the vehicle-specific harness from the AP4-TY13 (R.2) interface to the factory radio harness. Ensure all connections are secure.
  4. Wire Aftermarket Stereo Harness: If installing an aftermarket stereo, connect its wiring harness to the AP4-TY13 (R.2) interface harness. Match wire colors and functions carefully. Some wires, such as amplifier turn-on, parking sense, and steering wheel control connections, may require direct connection to the vehicle's wiring or specific aftermarket stereo inputs. Use appropriate connectors (e.g., splice connectors, crimp caps) for secure and insulated connections.
  5. Mount Interface Module: Securely mount the AP4-TY13 (R.2) interface module in a location that is free from moisture and excessive heat, and where it will not interfere with vehicle operation.
  6. Reconnect Battery: Once all connections are made and secured, reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  7. Test System: Turn on the vehicle's ignition and test the aftermarket stereo and all integrated functions (volume, fade, balance, steering wheel controls, etc.) to ensure proper operation.

4. Operation

The PAC Audio AP4-TY13 (R.2) operates by converting the factory amplified audio signals into a clean, flat, low-level output suitable for aftermarket amplifiers. Once installed, the interface allows your aftermarket amplifier to receive a high-quality signal while retaining the functionality of your factory head unit's controls. Adjustments to volume, fade, balance, and tone (bass, mid, treble) will typically be managed through your factory head unit, with the interface processing these commands for the aftermarket amplifier.

The included sub-level controller provides convenient adjustment of the subwoofer output level directly from the driver's seat.

5. Maintenance

The AP4-TY13 (R.2) interface is designed for maintenance-free operation. Ensure that all wiring connections remain secure and free from corrosion. Avoid exposing the module to extreme temperatures or moisture. Periodically check for any loose connections, especially after significant vehicle vibrations or impacts.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Audio Output:
    • Verify all power and ground connections to the interface and aftermarket amplifier.
    • Check the amplifier turn-on lead connection.
    • Ensure the factory radio is functioning correctly.
    • Confirm all audio output connections (RCA cables) are properly seated.
  • Distorted Audio:
    • Check for proper gain settings on the aftermarket amplifier. Excessive gain can cause distortion.
    • Ensure all wiring connections are secure and free from shorts or interference.
    • Verify the input signal from the factory radio is clean.
  • Loss of Factory Features (Chimes, Bluetooth, etc.):
    • Recheck all connections to the AP4-TY13 (R.2) interface harness. Ensure no wires are loose or incorrectly connected.
    • Confirm the interface module is receiving proper power.
  • Steering Wheel Controls Not Functioning:
    • Verify the steering wheel control wires are correctly connected to the aftermarket stereo's input.
    • Consult the aftermarket stereo's manual for programming steering wheel controls.
