2. Safety Information

Read all instructions carefully before installation and use. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage or injury.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and gloves during installation.
  • Ensure the gate structure is stable and capable of supporting the lock securely.
  • Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the installation area.
  • Do not attempt to modify the lock or its components. Use only genuine LOCINOX parts for any replacements.
  • Regularly inspect the lock for signs of wear or damage. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately.

3. Setup and Installation

The LOCINOX LAKQ4040 U2 lock is designed for surface mounting with a 4-hole fixing system, ensuring quick and easy installation on gate profiles from 40mm to 60mm.

  1. Prepare the Gate: Identify the desired mounting location on your gate. Ensure the surface is clean, flat, and free from obstructions.
  2. Mark Drilling Points: Position the lock body against the gate frame. Use a pencil or marker to accurately mark the four fixing points.
  3. Drill Holes: Drill pilot holes at the marked locations. Ensure the drill bit size is appropriate for the mounting screws (not included, typically self-tapping screws for metal gates or wood screws for wooden gates).
  4. Mount the Lock Body: Secure the lock body to the gate using suitable fasteners. Ensure the lock is firmly attached and does not wobble.
  5. Install Strike Plate: Close the gate and align the strike plate with the daybolt and nightbolt. Mark the drilling points for the strike plate on the gate post.
  6. Adjust Daybolt and Nightbolt: The daybolt and nightbolt offer 20mm continuous adjustability. Adjust their position to ensure smooth engagement with the strike plate when the gate is closed. The daybolt is reversible to suit both left and right-handed gate applications. To reverse, simply pull the daybolt out, rotate 180 degrees, and reinsert.
  7. Secure Strike Plate: Drill pilot holes and secure the strike plate to the gate post.
  8. Test Operation: Open and close the gate several times, testing the lock with the key to ensure smooth operation and proper engagement of both bolts.

4. Operating Instructions

The LAKQ4040 U2 is a key-operated lock designed for straightforward use.

  • Locking the Gate: Insert the key into the cylinder and turn it to extend the nightbolt into the strike plate. Remove the key. The gate is now securely locked.
  • Unlocking the Gate: Insert the key into the cylinder and turn it to retract the nightbolt. The gate can now be opened.
  • Daybolt Function: The daybolt automatically retracts when the gate is opened and extends when the gate is closed, providing a latching function. It does not require a key for basic gate closure.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your LOCINOX gate lock.

  • Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the lock periodically with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or KTL/E-coating.
  • Lubrication: Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the key cylinder and moving parts of the bolts annually, or more frequently in harsh environments. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
  • Inspection: Regularly check all mounting screws for tightness. Inspect the lock body, bolts, and strike plate for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Ensure the bolts move freely without obstruction.
  • Corrosion Resistance: The stainless steel construction and ISO 9227 KTL / E-coated lock box are designed to withstand 1000 hours of salt spray testing, offering excellent corrosion resistance. However, proper cleaning and lubrication will further extend its lifespan.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your gate lock, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Key is difficult to turn or sticks. Dirt or debris in the cylinder; lack of lubrication. Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant into the keyway. Insert and remove the key several times.
Nightbolt does not fully extend or retract. Misalignment with strike plate; obstruction; internal mechanism issue. Check strike plate alignment and adjust if necessary. Ensure no debris is blocking the bolt path. Lubricate moving parts. If the issue persists, contact support.
Daybolt does not latch properly. Misalignment with strike plate; daybolt not correctly reversed; wear. Adjust the strike plate. Ensure the daybolt is correctly oriented for your gate's swing direction. Check for wear on the daybolt.
Lock feels loose on the gate. Mounting screws are loose. Tighten all four mounting screws securely. Do not overtighten.
