3. Product Overview

3.1 Front Panel and Indicators

The front panel of your router features LED indicators that provide information about the device's status and network activity.

• Power LED: Indicates if the router is powered on.

4. Setup

4.1 Hardware Connection

2. Connect Modem: Connect one end of the provided RJ-45 cable to your modem's Ethernet port and the other end to the WAN port (blue) on your ASUS router.
3. Connect Power: Plug the power adapter into the router's DC-IN port and then into a power outlet. Press the Power button to turn on the router.
4. Power On Modem: Power on your modem. Wait for its indicator lights to stabilize, indicating an active internet connection.
5. Connect Device: Connect your computer to one of the router's LAN ports (yellow) using an Ethernet cable, or connect wirelessly using the default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password found on the label at the bottom of the router.

4.2 Initial Configuration (Web Interface)

1. Launch Browser: Open a web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge) on your connected computer.
2. Access Router: Type router.asus.com or 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press Enter.
3. Login: The setup wizard will guide you through the initial configuration. If prompted for login credentials, the default username is admin and the default password is admin. It is highly recommended to change these default credentials during the setup process for security.
4. Follow Wizard: Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your internet connection, Wi-Fi network name (SSID), and password.

5. Operating

5.1 Connecting Devices

• Wi-Fi Connection: On your wireless device (smartphone, laptop, tablet), search for available Wi-Fi networks. Select the SSID you configured during setup and enter your Wi-Fi password.
• Ethernet Connection: For wired devices, connect an Ethernet cable from the device's network port to any of the router's yellow LAN ports.

5.2 Dual-Band Functionality

The RT-AC58U V3 operates on two frequency bands: 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

• 2.4GHz Band: Offers wider coverage and better penetration through walls, suitable for general internet browsing and devices further away from the router.
• 5GHz Band: Provides faster speeds and lower latency, ideal for bandwidth-intensive activities like online gaming and 4K video streaming, but has a shorter range and is more susceptible to obstacles.

You can configure separate SSIDs for each band or use a single SSID with Smart Connect for automatic band steering.

5.3 Guest Network

The router supports creating separate guest networks. This allows visitors to access the internet without gaining access to your main network resources, enhancing security. Configure guest networks via the router's web interface.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Firmware Updates

Regularly updating your router's firmware is crucial for security, stability, and performance. Access the router's web interface, navigate to the 'Administration' section, and check for firmware updates. It is recommended to use the automatic update feature if available.

6.2 Resetting the Router

If you encounter persistent issues or wish to clear all configurations, you can reset the router to its factory default settings. Locate the Reset button on the rear panel. With the router powered on, use a paperclip or a thin object to press and hold the Reset button for approximately 5-10 seconds until the Power LED starts blinking. Release the button, and the router will restart with factory defaults.

6.3 Optimal Placement

For best Wi-Fi performance, place your router in a central location in your home, away from obstructions like thick walls, metal objects, and other electronic devices that may cause interference. Elevating the router can also improve signal distribution.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 No Internet Connection

• Check the WAN LED on the front panel. If it's off or red, ensure the Ethernet cable from your modem is securely connected to the router's blue WAN port.
• Restart your modem and then your router. Wait a few minutes for both devices to fully boot up.
• Verify your internet service provider (ISP) connection is active.
• Access the router's web interface and check the internet connection status.

7.2 Slow Wi-Fi Speed

• Ensure your device is connected to the appropriate Wi-Fi band (5GHz for faster speeds, if supported).
• Move closer to the router to improve signal strength.
• Check for interference from other electronic devices (cordless phones, microwaves).
• Update your router's firmware and your device's wireless drivers.

7.3 Cannot Access Router Web Interface

• Ensure your device is connected to the router via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
• Verify you are typing the correct address: router.asus.com or 192.168.1.1.
• Clear your browser's cache and cookies, or try a different browser.
• If you forgot your login credentials, you may need to perform a factory reset (see Section 6.2).
