Introduction
Thank you for choosing the LifeStraw Go Water Filter Bottle. This manual provides essential information for the proper use, maintenance, and care of your product. Please read these instructions carefully before first use to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your filter bottle.
Product Overview
The LifeStraw Go is a reusable water bottle with an integrated 2-stage filter designed to provide safe drinking water from various sources. It combines a hollow fiber membrane filter and an activated carbon filter to remove bacteria, parasites, microplastics, and reduce chlorine and organic chemical matter.

Components:
- Water Bottle: The main container for water.
- Hollow Fiber Membrane Filter: Removes bacteria, parasites, and microplastics.
- Activated Carbon Filter: Reduces chlorine, organic chemical matter, and improves taste.
- Mouthpiece: For drinking.
- Carabiner: For attaching the bottle to gear.
Setup Instructions
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, disassemble the bottle and wash all parts (except the filter) with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly.
- Prepare the Filter:
- Fill the bottle with water.
- Screw the filter assembly onto the bottle.
- Allow the filter to soak in water for 20 seconds to prime it.
- Take 5 large sips to get water flowing. The first few sips may contain carbon dust; this is harmless.
- Assembly: Ensure all components are securely fastened to prevent leaks.
Operating Instructions
- Fill the Bottle: Open the cap and fill the bottle with water from your desired source. Ensure the water level does not exceed the maximum fill line.
- Drink: Close the cap securely. Open the mouthpiece and sip directly from the straw. The filter will purify the water as you drink.
- Flow Rate: A strong suction is required to draw water through the filter. If the flow rate decreases significantly, it may be time to backwash the filter or replace it.
Maintenance
Backwashing the Hollow Fiber Membrane Filter:
To maintain optimal flow rate, backwash the hollow fiber membrane filter regularly, especially after filtering turbid water or if flow decreases.
- Remove the filter from the bottle.
- Unscrew the hollow fiber membrane filter from the carbon filter.
- Fill the bottle with clean water.
- Reattach only the hollow fiber membrane filter to the bottle.
- Invert the bottle and squeeze water through the mouthpiece to flush out contaminants. Repeat several times.
Cleaning the Bottle and Cap:
Wash the bottle and cap with mild soap and water. The bottle is dishwasher safe (top rack only) once the filter is removed. Ensure all parts are completely dry before storage.
Filter Replacement:
- Hollow Fiber Membrane Filter: Replace after 1,000 gallons (4,000 liters) or when water no longer flows through the filter.
- Activated Carbon Filter: Replace every 2 months or after 26 gallons (100 liters) of use to ensure optimal taste and reduction of chlorine and organic chemical matter.
Storage:
After each use, backwash the filter. Store the bottle and filter in a cool, dry place. For long-term storage, ensure the filter is completely dry to prevent mold growth. You can do this by backwashing, shaking out excess water, and allowing it to air dry for several days.
Troubleshooting
- Low Flow Rate:
- Perform a backwash of the hollow fiber membrane filter.
- Ensure the activated carbon filter is not clogged; replace if necessary.
- Check if the hollow fiber membrane filter has reached its lifespan (1,000 gallons).
- Unpleasant Taste/Odor:
- Replace the activated carbon filter.
- Ensure the bottle and cap are thoroughly cleaned.
- Leaking:
- Ensure all parts are securely tightened.
- Check rubber gaskets for damage or misalignment.
