Setup
1. Unboxing and Package Contents
Carefully unpack all components and verify that all items are present. The package typically includes the DVR unit, power adapter, HDMI cable, Ethernet cable, mouse, and a quick start guide. Ensure no items are damaged during transit.
2. Connecting Cameras
Connect compatible Swann cameras to the BNC video input ports on the rear of the DVR. This DVR supports up to 4 channels. Ensure secure connections for optimal video signal transmission. This system is not compatible with POE (Power over Ethernet) cameras.
3. Connecting to a Display
Use an HDMI cable to connect the DVR's HDMI output port to a monitor or TV. This will allow you to view the live feed and navigate the DVR's menu system.
4. Network Connection
Connect the DVR to your network router using an Ethernet cable. A stable network connection is required for remote viewing, firmware updates, and cloud integration features.
5. Powering On
Connect the power adapter to the DVR and then plug it into a power outlet. The DVR will power on automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts for initial setup, including setting a password and configuring network settings.
Operating Instructions
1. Basic Recording and Playback
The DVR is configured for continuous recording by default. To review recorded footage, access the playback menu using the included mouse. You can search by date, time, and event type. The system records in HD video at 30 frames per second.
2. Remote Access with HomeSafe View App
Download the free HomeSafe View app on your iOS or Android mobile device. Follow the in-app instructions to add your DVR using its unique ID. This enables live viewing, playback, and system management from anywhere with an internet connection. The system is also compatible with Windows and Mac OS for desktop viewing.
3. True Detect Technology
The DVR utilizes True Detect technology for heat-based, motion-activated recording. This reduces false alarms by detecting heat signatures from people and large vehicles, triggering recording and sending alerts to your connected devices.
4. Dropbox Integration
Integrate your DVR with Dropbox via the QuickShot Cloud feature. This allows for storing still images captured by the system directly to your Dropbox account, providing an off-site backup of important events.
5. Voice Control with Google Assistant
The DVR is compatible with Google Assistant for voice control. Link your Swann account to Google Assistant to use voice commands for certain functions, such as viewing live feeds on compatible smart displays or TVs (e.g., Chrome Cast).
Maintenance
1. Hard Drive Management
The DVR includes a 1TB hard drive. When the hard drive is full, the system will automatically overwrite the oldest footage. Regularly back up important recordings to an external storage device or cloud service (like Dropbox integration) to prevent loss. The HDD storage is expandable up to 6TB.
2. Firmware Updates
Periodically check for firmware updates through the DVR's system settings or the Swann support website. Keeping your firmware updated ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features.
3. Cleaning
Gently clean the DVR unit and camera lenses with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, which can damage components. Ensure the DVR is powered off before cleaning.
