MINELAB SDC 2300

Minelab SDC 2300 All Terrain Gold Metal Detector User Manual

Model: SDC 2300 (3230-0001)

Introduction

The Minelab SDC 2300 is a high-performance, mid-range gold detector designed for prospecting on land and underwater. This compact and waterproof detector is engineered to locate elusive sub-gram gold nuggets. It features easy-to-use controls and requires no assembly, making it ready for immediate use in various challenging environments.

The SDC 2300 utilizes MPF (Multi Period Fast) technology, which incorporates extremely fast Pulse Induction switching between Transmit (Tx) and Receive (Rx) detector signals. This technology minimizes residual transmit signal during the receive cycle, enabling clear and sharp detection of very small gold particles.

Setup

1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect the detector and accessories for any signs of damage. Report any damage to your dealer immediately.

2. Battery Installation

The SDC 2300 operates on 4 C-cell batteries. Ensure they are inserted with the correct polarity as indicated in the battery compartment. The detector also supports rechargeable batteries and comes with an AC charger.

4. Extending the Detector

While the SDC 2300 is assembly-free, you may need to extend the shaft to a comfortable operating length. Unlock the quick-release clamps, extend the shaft, and then secure the clamps firmly.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On/Off

Locate the power button on the control panel. Press and hold the button for a few seconds to power on the detector. Repeat the action to power off.

2. Basic Controls

The SDC 2300 features intuitive controls. Familiarize yourself with the following:

  • Sensitivity Control: Adjusts the detector's sensitivity to optimize performance based on ground conditions and target size. Higher sensitivity can detect smaller targets but may also pick up more ground noise.
  • Volume Control: Adjusts the audio output level for the headphones.
  • Noise Cancel: Reduces electromagnetic interference from external sources, ensuring stable operation.
  • Threshold: Sets the continuous background hum level. A slight audible hum is ideal for detecting faint signals.

3. Detecting Techniques

On Land: Sweep the coil slowly and steadily over the ground, keeping it as close to the surface as possible. Overlap each sweep by about half the coil's width to ensure thorough coverage.

Underwater: Ensure all connections are secure and the detector is fully sealed before submerging. Maintain a slow, controlled sweep. The waterproof headphones are essential for hearing signals underwater.

When a target is detected, the detector will produce an audible signal. Pinpoint the target by narrowing your sweep area and listening for the strongest signal.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning

After each use, especially in wet or dirty conditions, clean the detector with a damp cloth. For saltwater use, rinse the detector thoroughly with fresh water to prevent corrosion. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

2. Battery Care

If storing the detector for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Use only recommended C-cell batteries or rechargeable equivalents. Charge rechargeable batteries fully before storage and periodically during long storage periods.

3. Storage

Store the SDC 2300 in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Utilize its compact folding capability for convenient storage.

Troubleshooting
