1. Introduction and Overview
The HEIMAN HS1CA Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detector is designed to provide early warning of carbon monoxide gas presence in your home or workplace. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be fatal. This device utilizes an advanced electrochemical sensor for accurate and reliable detection, complying with the EN 50291 standard.
Key features include a 10-year sensor lifespan, an 85 dB loud alarm, and clear visual indicators for alarm, power, and fault conditions. The detector is battery-operated for continuous protection.

2. Safety Information
Important: This carbon monoxide detector is designed to detect carbon monoxide gas only. It will NOT detect smoke, fire, or other flammable gases such as liquid gas, natural gas, or methane. For comprehensive safety, install smoke detectors in conjunction with CO detectors.
Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning:
- Low levels: Headache, nausea, fatigue.
- Medium levels: Severe headache, dizziness, vomiting, mental confusion.
- High levels: Unconsciousness, brain damage, death.

Image 2: Visual representation of the effects of carbon monoxide concentration on humans. This graphic illustrates how different CO levels (e.g., 400ppm, 1600ppm, 6400ppm, 12800ppm) can lead to symptoms ranging from headache to death within specific timeframes.
If the alarm sounds, immediately move to fresh air, call emergency services, and do not re-enter the premises until it has been deemed safe by professionals.
3. Package Contents
Please check the box for the following items:
- 1 x HEIMAN HS1CA Carbon Monoxide Detector
- 1 x Mounting Plate
- 1 x CR123A Lithium Battery
- 2 x Screws
- 2 x Wall Plugs (Dowels)
- 1 x Instruction Manual
4. Setup and Installation
For optimal performance and safety, install the detector in areas where CO is most likely to be present, such as near fuel-burning appliances, or in sleeping areas. It can be mounted on a ceiling or wall.
4.1 Battery Installation
- Remove the mounting plate from the detector by twisting it counter-clockwise.
- Insert the provided CR123A lithium battery into the battery compartment, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- The detector will emit a short beep and the green LED will flash, indicating power-on.
4.2 Mounting the Detector
- Choose a suitable location on a ceiling or wall, away from direct airflow from vents or windows.
- Use the mounting plate as a template to mark the positions for drilling.
- Drill two holes, insert the wall plugs, and secure the mounting plate with the screws.
- Attach the detector to the mounting plate by aligning the grooves and twisting clockwise until it locks securely.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power-On and Warm-Up
After battery installation, the detector will enter a warm-up phase lasting approximately 100 seconds. During this time, the green LED may flash, and the detector will perform self-diagnostics. Once complete, the green LED will flash periodically, indicating normal operation.
5.2 LED Indicators
The detector uses a 3-color LED system to indicate its status:
- Green LED: Indicates normal power and operation.
- Yellow LED: Indicates a fault or low battery condition.
- Red LED: Indicates a carbon monoxide alarm.

5.3 Alarm Function
When dangerous levels of CO gas are detected, the detector will sound an 85 dB alarm and the red LED will flash. The alarm thresholds are as follows:
- 30 PPM: Alarm after 120 minutes.
- 50 PPM: Alarm within 60-90 minutes.
- 100 PPM: Alarm within 10-40 minutes.
- 300 PPM: Alarm within 3 minutes.
The alarm will automatically reset when the CO level returns to a safe concentration.

5.4 Test/Hush Button
Press the large red button labeled "PUSH TO TEST/HUSH" to perform a self-test of the alarm function. The detector will sound the alarm and flash the red LED. This button can also be used to temporarily silence the alarm during a non-emergency event, if applicable.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Regular Testing
It is recommended to test your CO detector weekly by pressing the "TEST/HUSH" button to ensure the alarm and electronics are functioning correctly.
6.2 Battery Replacement
The detector is powered by a replaceable CR123A lithium battery, offering a lifespan of up to 10 years. When the battery is low, the yellow LED will flash, and the detector will emit a low battery warning chirp. Replace the battery immediately when this occurs.

Image 7: Illustration of the CR123A battery, highlighting the 10-year battery life for uninterrupted protection.
6.3 Cleaning
Dust and debris can affect the detector's performance. Gently vacuum the detector's vents and exterior casing at least once a month. Do not use cleaning solvents or sprays directly on the unit.
7. Troubleshooting
- Alarm sounds intermittently without CO: This could indicate a fault or a very low level of CO. Ensure proper ventilation. If it persists, replace the unit.
- Yellow LED flashing/chirping: Indicates a low battery or a fault in the sensor. Replace the battery first. If the issue persists, the unit may be faulty and require replacement.
- No response when pressing test button: Check battery installation. If batteries are correctly installed and charged, the unit may be faulty.
