3.1 Front Panel Features

- Input Gain Knobs (1 & 2): Adjust the input level for connected microphones or instruments.
- VU LED Meters: Provide visual feedback on input signal levels, indicating -20dB, -6dB, -3dB, and Clip.
- Phantom Power Button & LED: Activates +48V phantom power for condenser microphones. The LED illuminates when active.
- USB/Direct Knob: Blends the direct input signal with the audio playback from your computer for zero-latency monitoring.
- Headphone Output: Connects to headphones for monitoring.

4. System Requirements
Before connecting your AIR 192x4, ensure your computer meets the following general requirements:
- Operating Systems: Windows, macOS (also compatible with Android and iOS for certain applications).
- Hardware Interface: USB 2.0 or higher (USB-C port recommended for optimal performance).
- Compatible Devices: Personal Computer, Guitar, Keyboard, Microphone, Speaker.
5. Setup Guide
5.1 Connecting to Your Computer
- Connect one end of the provided USB-C cable to the USB port on the rear of the AIR 192x4.
- Connect the other end of the cable to an available USB port on your computer. Use the appropriate cable (USB-C to USB-C or USB-C to USB-A) for your computer's port type.
- The AIR 192x4 is bus-powered, meaning it draws power directly from the USB connection. The Power LED on the front panel will illuminate when successfully connected.

5.2 Driver Installation
For optimal performance and access to all features, it is recommended to install the latest drivers for your AIR 192x4. Visit the official M-AUDIO website and navigate to the support section for your specific model to download and install the most current drivers. Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the installer.
5.3 Connecting Inputs

- Microphone: Connect an XLR microphone to Input 1. If using a condenser microphone, press the Phantom Power button on the front panel.
- Instrument (Guitar/Bass): Connect a ¼” TS cable from your instrument to Input 2. This input features a specially designed gain and impedance stage.
- Line-Level Devices: Connect line-level devices (e.g., synthesizers, drum machines) to Input 1 using a ¼” TRS cable.
5.4 Connecting Outputs
- Studio Monitors: Connect your active studio monitors to the Main L/R outputs on the rear panel using ¼” TRS cables.
- Headphones: Connect your headphones to the ¼” headphone output on the front panel.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Adjusting Input Levels
Use the Input Gain knobs (1 and 2) to set the appropriate recording level for your microphone or instrument. Observe the VU LED meters; aim for the signal to peak in the green or yellow range, avoiding the red 'Clip' LED to prevent distortion.
6.2 Monitoring
- Direct Monitoring: The USB/Direct knob allows you to blend between the direct input signal (for zero-latency monitoring) and the audio playback from your computer. Turn the knob towards 'Direct' to hear more of your live input, and towards 'USB' to hear more of your computer's playback.
- Headphone Output: Adjust the Headphone Volume knob to control the listening level through your headphones.
- Main Output: Use the Main Volume knob to control the listening level through your studio monitors.
6.3 Phantom Power
If you are using a condenser microphone, press the Phantom Power button to supply +48V power. Ensure the microphone is connected before activating phantom power. Dynamic microphones do not require phantom power.

- No Sound (Input): Check that your microphone/instrument is properly connected and the input gain knob is turned up. Verify phantom power is active for condenser microphones. Ensure the correct input is selected in your recording software.
- No Sound (Output): Check that your studio monitors or headphones are connected and powered on. Adjust the Main Volume and Headphone Volume knobs. Ensure the AIR 192x4 is selected as the audio output device in your computer's sound settings and recording software.
- Distortion/Clipping: Reduce the input gain if the 'Clip' LED illuminates frequently. Ensure your recording software's input levels are not too high.
- Latency Issues: Adjust the buffer size in your recording software's audio settings. Utilize the Direct Monitoring feature by adjusting the USB/Direct knob.
- Software Not Recognizing Interface: Ensure the latest drivers are installed. Restart your computer and recording software. Check your computer's device manager (Windows) or Audio MIDI Setup (macOS) to confirm the interface is recognized.
