Introduction
The Gardena Rain Barrel Pump 4700/2 INOX is designed for efficient watering, circulating, and pumping of collected rainwater. This submersible pump features a robust stainless steel housing, an integrated filter, and an adjustable telescopic tube, making it ideal for garden irrigation using sprinklers, showers, or sprayers. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your pump.
Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the pump. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Always disconnect the pump from the power supply before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or when not in use.
- Ensure the power cable is not damaged. Do not operate the pump with a damaged cable or plug.
- The pump is designed for pumping clear rainwater. Do not use it for pumping flammable, corrosive, or explosive liquids, or water containing large particles.
- Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the operating pump.
- Ensure the pump is fully submerged in water during operation to prevent dry running, which can cause damage. The integrated float switch provides automatic dry-run protection.
- Do not lift or carry the pump by its power cable or discharge hose.
Product Overview
The Gardena Rain Barrel Pump 4700/2 INOX is a submersible pump featuring a durable stainless steel body, an integrated pre-filter, and a telescopic tube with a regulating valve.

Setup
- Positioning the Pump: Carefully lower the pump into the rain barrel. Ensure the pump is placed on a stable surface at the bottom of the barrel and is fully submerged in water. The float switch should be able to move freely.
- Adjusting the Telescopic Tube: The telescopic tube is height-adjustable. Extend or retract the tube to position the outlet over the edge of the rain barrel. The tube is designed to guide water kink-free over the barrel edge.
- Connecting the Hose: Attach your garden hose (e.g., 13 mm (1/2") or 19 mm (3/4")) to the regulating and shut-off valve at the end of the telescopic tube. Ensure a secure connection to prevent leaks.
- Connecting Accessories: If using a sprayer, shower, or sprinkler, connect it to the end of your garden hose.

Operating Instructions
- Power Connection: Once the pump is correctly positioned and the hose is connected, plug the pump into a suitable power outlet.
- Starting the Pump: The pump will start automatically when plugged in and submerged, provided the float switch is in the 'on' position (submerged in sufficient water).
- Adjusting Water Flow: Use the regulating and shut-off valve on the telescopic tube to adjust the water flow rate according to your needs. Turn the valve to increase or decrease the flow, or to shut it off completely.
- Automatic Shut-off: The integrated float switch will automatically switch off the pump when the water level in the rain barrel drops below a critical point, preventing dry running and potential damage to the pump.
- Stopping Operation: To stop the pump, either unplug it from the power outlet or close the regulating valve completely. If the water level drops, the float switch will also stop the pump automatically.

Performance Characteristics
The pump delivers a maximum flow rate of 4700 liters per hour at 2.3 bar pressure. The actual flow rate will vary depending on the lifting height and hose length.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Gardena Rain Barrel Pump.
- Cleaning the Pre-filter: The pump features an integrated pre-filter at its base to protect against debris. This filter should be regularly checked and cleaned, especially if you notice a reduction in pump performance. To clean, disconnect the pump from power, remove it from the barrel, and detach the filter base. Rinse the filter under running water to remove any accumulated dirt.
- General Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the pump with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh detergents or solvents.
- Winter Storage: Before the first frost, remove the pump from the rain barrel, clean it thoroughly, and drain all water from the pump and hoses. Store the pump in a frost-free, dry location.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start | No power supply; Float switch not activated; Motor overheating. | Check power connection; Ensure sufficient water level for float switch; Allow pump to cool down. |
| Low flow rate | Clogged filter; Kinked hose; Regulating valve partially closed; Insufficient water level. | Clean pre-filter; Straighten hose; Open regulating valve fully; Ensure adequate water level. |
| Pump runs but no water is delivered | Air in the pump; Water level too low; Inlet blocked. | Tilt pump slightly to release air; Ensure pump is fully submerged; Check and clear inlet. |
| Pump switches off frequently | Water level too low (float switch activation); Overheating. | Ensure sufficient water level; Check for blockages; Allow pump to cool. |
