Operating Instructions

Motion Detection

The Ring Solar Steplight features adjustable motion detection with up to a 120° field of view and a 15-foot detection range. The detection angle is dependent on the distance from the unit. When motion is detected, the light will activate, providing up to 50 lumens of white light.

Ring App Control

With a Ring Bridge (sold separately), you can control your Solar Steplight directly from the Ring app. This allows you to:

  • Set schedules for when the light should be active.
  • Manually turn the lights on and off.
  • Customize motion detection settings and light duration (auto shut-off time adjustable from 30 seconds to 2 minutes).
  • Receive mobile notifications when motion is detected.

Amazon Sidewalk Connectivity

When connected to Amazon Sidewalk, the Ring Solar Steplight can utilize customizable smart controls within the Ring app. This allows for synchronization with other Ring smart lights, as well as select Ring doorbells, cameras, and Alexa-enabled devices.

Device Interconnectivity

The steplight can be configured to respond in real-time. If one connected Ring smart light detects motion, it can activate your other linked Ring devices, such as cameras or additional lights, to create a unified security and lighting system.

Maintenance

Solar Charging

The primary power source for the Ring Solar Steplight is its integrated solar panel. For optimal performance, ensure the steplight is placed in a location that receives direct sunlight for several hours daily. This allows the internal 3.7V 18650 Lithium Ion Cell battery to recharge and store power.

Battery Recharging

In periods of prolonged cloudy weather or if the steplight is installed in a shaded area, the battery may require supplemental charging. The steplight can be recharged via a Micro USB cord. Periodically check the battery status in the Ring app if available.

Weather Resistance

The Ring Solar Steplight is designed to be weather-resistant with an IP66 rating, meaning it is protected against dust ingress and powerful water jets. It operates effectively in temperatures ranging from -4°F to 122°F (-20°C to 50°C). Regular cleaning of the solar panel with a soft, damp cloth can help maintain charging efficiency.

Troubleshooting

Light Not Turning On

  • Check Battery Charge: Ensure the battery is sufficiently charged. If the steplight is not receiving enough direct sunlight, the battery may be depleted. Try recharging it via the Micro USB port.
  • Verify Motion Detection Settings: In the Ring app, confirm that motion detection is enabled and the sensitivity settings are appropriate for your environment.
  • Environmental Factors: Extreme temperatures outside the operating range (-4°F to 122°F) can affect performance.

Poor Solar Charging

  • Sunlight Exposure: Relocate the steplight to an area that receives more direct sunlight throughout the day.
  • Clean Solar Panel: Dust, dirt, or debris on the solar panel can reduce charging efficiency. Gently clean the panel with a soft, damp cloth.

Connectivity Issues (Ring App/Amazon Sidewalk)

  • Ring Bridge: Ensure your Ring Bridge is powered on, connected to your network, and within range of the steplight. A Ring Bridge is required for smart features.
  • App Updates: Make sure your Ring app is updated to the latest version.
  • Reset Device: If issues persist, try resetting the steplight according to the instructions in the Ring app or the included user manual.
