Operating Instructions
Brewing Coffee
Follow these steps for a standard coffee brew:
- Open the top lid of the coffee maker.
- Fill the glass carafe with the desired amount of fresh, cold water. Use the Easy Measure markings on the carafe for accuracy.
- Pour the water from the carafe into the water reservoir. The reservoir also has color-coded Easy Measure markings to guide you.
- Place a 12-cup basket-style paper filter into the brew basket.
- Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. Use the Easy Measure coffee scoop, which has color-coded markings corresponding to the water levels, to ensure the correct coffee-to-water ratio.
- Close the top lid securely.
- Ensure the empty carafe is placed correctly on the warming plate.
- Press the 'BREW NOW' button. The 'BREW' indicator light will illuminate, and the brewing cycle will begin.
- Once brewing is complete, the coffee maker will automatically switch to the 'WARMER ON' mode.
Programming Brew Later
Set your coffee maker to brew at a specific time:
- Prepare the coffee maker for brewing as described in the 'Brewing Coffee' section (water, filter, coffee grounds, carafe in place).
- Press the 'HOUR' and 'MIN' buttons to set the current time.
- Press the 'BREW LATER' button. The 'BREW LATER' indicator light will flash.
- Use the 'HOUR' and 'MIN' buttons to set your desired brew time.
- Press the 'BREW LATER' button again to confirm. The 'BREW LATER' indicator light will stop flashing and remain illuminated.
- The coffee maker will automatically start brewing at the programmed time.
Grab-a-Cup Auto Pause
This feature allows you to pour a cup of coffee before the brewing cycle is complete. Simply remove the carafe from the warming plate. The brewing will pause temporarily. Return the carafe to the warming plate within 30 seconds to resume brewing and prevent overflow.
Blooming Feature
The blooming feature presoaks the coffee grounds before the main brewing cycle. This process allows the coffee to degas, resulting in a fuller flavor and improved taste. This feature is automatic and does not require manual activation.
Freshness Indicator
The illuminated 4-Hour Freshness Indicator on the display shows how long it has been since the coffee was brewed, up to 4 hours. This helps ensure you enjoy your coffee at its optimal freshness.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Regular cleaning helps maintain the performance and longevity of your coffee maker.
- Daily Cleaning: After each use, discard the used coffee filter and grounds. Wash the carafe, brew basket, and measuring scoop in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. The carafe and brew basket are top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior surfaces of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Decalcifying: Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting performance. When the 'CLEAN' indicator light illuminates, it is time to decalcify.
Decalcifying Procedure:
- Pour 4 cups of undiluted white household vinegar into the water reservoir.
- Place an empty paper filter in the brew basket and close the lid.
- Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
- Press the 'CLEAN' button. The 'CLEAN' indicator light will illuminate, and the cleaning cycle will begin.
- Allow the cycle to complete. The coffee maker will automatically shut off.
- After the cleaning cycle, run two full brewing cycles with fresh, cold water only to rinse out any remaining vinegar.
Water Filtration System
The 2-step Advanced Water Filtration System helps reduce impurities like calcium and chlorine for better-tasting coffee. Replacement cartridges are sold separately and should be changed regularly according to the filter's instructions, typically every 30 days or 30 brewing cycles, whichever comes first.
