Introduction

The Tramex Moisture Encounter ME5 is a non-destructive, pinless moisture meter designed for rapid and accurate measurement of moisture content in a wide range of building materials. Upon opening the packaging, verify that all items listed below are present:

Setup

Battery Installation

The Tramex ME5 requires 2 AA batteries for operation. These are typically included. To install or replace batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Slide the cover open or remove the screw if present.
  3. Insert 2 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

Powering On/Off

Press the power button () located on the front panel to turn the device on. Press and hold the power button to turn it off.

The ME5 features a large analog display that shows moisture content readings. The top scale indicates Wood %MC (Moisture Content) from 5-30%, while the bottom scale provides a 0-100 comparative reading for other materials.

Selecting Material Mode and Depth

The ME5 allows you to select different material modes and measurement depths:

Use the mode selection buttons on the device to cycle through the material types and depth settings. The selected mode will be indicated by an illuminated LED.

Taking a Measurement

  1. Turn on the ME5.
  2. Select the appropriate material mode and depth for the material you are testing.
  3. Place the device flat against the surface of the material. Ensure full contact with the sensor pads on the back of the device.
  4. Read the moisture content directly from the analog display.
  5. For wood, refer to the Wood %MC scale. For other materials, use the comparative scale.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Wipe the device with a clean, dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the sensor pads are free from dust and debris for accurate readings.

Storage

Store the ME5 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
