2. Important Safety Instructions
- Read Instructions Carefully: Always read the entire instruction manual before using the sewing machine to prevent improper operation and potential damage.
- Power Source: Use only the provided DC 6V 1200mA power adapter or 4 "AA" batteries. Do not use both the power supply and batteries simultaneously, as this can cause the machine to malfunction or be damaged.
- Needle Position: Before changing any stitch pattern, ensure the needle is in its highest position and clear of the base. Failure to do so may make it difficult to change stitches and could lead to needle breakage.
- Thread Winding: Pay close attention to the direction of the needle and the thread during bobbin winding. Incorrect winding can cause thread jamming or improper stitching.
- Adult Supervision: Children should only use this sewing machine under the supervision of experienced adults.
- Keep Clear: Keep fingers, hair, and loose clothing away from all moving parts, especially the needle, handwheel, and presser foot.
- Unplug When Not in Use: Always unplug the sewing machine from the power outlet when not in use, before cleaning, or when performing any maintenance.

5.2 Threading the Machine
Proper threading is crucial for smooth operation and good stitch quality. Refer to the video below for a visual guide on threading the machine and winding the bobbin.
Video 5.1: NEX Portable Sewing Machine Operation Guide (Threading, Winding, Stitching)
This video demonstrates how to wind the bobbin, thread the upper thread, and set up the machine for sewing. It also shows various stitching functions.
- Winding the Bobbin:
- Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle.
- Place a spool of thread onto the spool pin.
- Guide the thread through the bobbin winder tension disc.
- Wrap the thread around the empty bobbin a few times, then push the bobbin winder spindle to the right.
- Turn on the machine (or press the foot pedal) to start winding. Stop when the bobbin is full.
- Cut the thread and push the spindle back to the left.
- Installing the Bobbin:
- Open the bobbin cover plate located on the sewing bed.
- Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds in the correct direction (usually counter-clockwise).
- Pull the bobbin thread through the tension slot.
- Close the bobbin cover plate.
- Threading the Upper Thread:
- Raise the presser foot lever and the needle to its highest position by turning the handwheel towards you.
- Place the thread spool on the spool pin.
- Guide the thread through the upper thread guide (1).
- Pass the thread down through the tension control disc (2).
- Guide the thread up and through the take-up lever (3).
- Thread the needle from front to back using the needle threader or manually.
- Pull about 4 inches of thread through the needle eye and under the presser foot.
- Bringing Up the Bobbin Thread:
- Hold the upper thread lightly with your left hand.
- Turn the handwheel towards you to lower the needle completely and then raise it again. This will catch the bobbin thread.
- Pull both the upper and bobbin threads to the back, under the presser foot.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Getting Started
- Place the fabric under the presser foot.
- Lower the presser foot lever.
- Select your desired stitch pattern by turning the stitch selection dial.
- Choose your speed setting (L for Low, H for High) using the speed switch on the front of the machine.

8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Machine does not turn on. | Incorrect power source connection (AC adapter and batteries used simultaneously). | Ensure only one power source is connected at a time. Remove batteries if using AC adapter, or unplug adapter if using batteries. |
| Thread jamming or skipped stitches. | Improper threading of upper thread or bobbin. Incorrect needle direction. | Re-thread the machine completely, ensuring all guides and tension discs are correctly used. Verify the needle's flat side faces the back. |
| Needle breakage. | Needle not installed correctly. Attempting to change stitch while needle is in fabric. Sewing overly thick material. | Ensure needle is fully inserted with flat side to the back. Always raise needle before changing stitch. Do not force machine through thick layers beyond its capacity (max 2.5mm denim). |
| Uneven stitches or loose tension. | Incorrect thread tension setting. Lint in tension discs. | Adjust the tension dial. Clean any lint from the tension discs. |
