5. Setup Guide

5.1 Power Connection

1. Ensure the mixer's power switch is in the OFF position.
2. Connect the provided power cable to the AC input on the rear panel of the mixer.
3. Plug the other end of the power cable into a suitable AC power outlet.

5.2 Input Connections

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Basic Signal Flow

Audio signal typically flows from the input (microphone/instrument) through the channel strip (gain, EQ, sends), then to the main mix, and finally out through the main outputs.

6.2 Gain Staging

1. Set all channel faders and the main mix fader to their lowest positions.
2. For each input channel, speak or play into the microphone/instrument at its loudest expected level.
3. Slowly increase the Gain knob for that channel until the "OL" (Overload) indicator briefly flashes, then back it off slightly. This sets the optimal input level for the Onyx preamp.
4. Gradually raise the channel fader to the desired level.
5. Finally, raise the main mix fader to achieve the overall output volume.

6.3 Using the 3-Band EQ

Each channel features a 3-band equalizer (High, Mid, Low) to shape the tone of your audio. Adjust these knobs to cut or boost specific frequency ranges. A flat setting (knob at 12 o'clock) applies no equalization.

6.4 AUX Sends (Monitors)

The three AUX send knobs on each channel control the amount of that channel's signal sent to the corresponding AUX output. These are typically used for creating separate monitor mixes for performers.

6.5 FX Send and GigFX Engine

1. Use the dedicated FX Send knob on each channel to send a portion of that channel's signal to the GigFX effects engine.
2. Select one of the 24 available effects using the FX Preset knob.
3. Adjust the FX Level control in the master section to blend the effect into the main mix.

6.6 Pan and Mute

• The Pan knob positions the channel's signal in the stereo field (left to right).
• The Mute button silences the channel's output to the main mix and AUX sends.

6.7 USB Recording and Playback

Once connected to a computer via USB and drivers are installed, you can record the main mix (or specific channels, depending on your DAW setup) and play back audio from your computer through the mixer. Use the USB 3-4 switch on channels 15-16 to route computer audio to those channels for mixing.

• Cleaning: Regularly wipe the mixer's surface with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.

• Storage: When not in use, store the mixer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If transporting, use a protective case.
