1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your ZOYI ZT-S1 Digital Multimeter. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device and retain it for future reference. The ZT-S1 is a compact, auto-ranging digital multimeter designed for measuring AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, continuity, and non-contact voltage (NCV).
2. Safety Information
Always adhere to basic safety precautions when using electrical testing equipment to prevent personal injury or damage to the meter or equipment under test.
- Do not exceed the maximum input values specified for each measurement range.
- Exercise extreme caution when working with voltages above 36V DC or 25V AC RMS, as these can pose a shock hazard.
- Inspect test leads for damaged insulation or exposed metal before use. Replace if damaged.
- Ensure the battery cover is securely closed before operation.
- Do not operate the meter if it appears damaged or if the battery compartment is not properly sealed.
- Remove test leads from the circuit before changing functions.
- Use the correct terminals, function, and range for your measurements.
3. Product Overview

Key Components:
- LCD Display: Shows measurement readings, units, and function indicators.
- Power Button (Red): Turns the multimeter on or off.
- NCV Button (Blue): Activates Non-Contact Voltage detection mode.
- H/* Button (Blue): Used for Data Hold and Backlight activation.
- Input Jacks:
- COM: Common terminal for all measurements.
- VΩ))): Input for voltage, resistance, continuity, and diode measurements.
- 10A FUSED: Input for high current (up to 10A) measurements.
- Kickstand: Allows the multimeter to stand upright for easier viewing.
4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The ZOYI ZT-S1 Digital Multimeter is powered by batteries. Ensure batteries are correctly installed before first use or when the low battery indicator appears.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the multimeter.
- Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert the required batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -).
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off
- To turn on the multimeter, press the red Power button.
- To turn off the multimeter, press and hold the red Power button until the display turns off.
5.2 Automatic Measurement Mode (AUTO)
The ZT-S1 features an intelligent automatic measurement mode. When powered on, the meter defaults to AUTO mode, which automatically identifies and measures AC/DC voltage, resistance, or continuity.
- Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the VΩ))) jack.
- Touch the test probes to the circuit or component you wish to measure. The meter will automatically detect the type of measurement and display the reading.
5.3 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection
The NCV function allows for quick detection of AC voltage without direct contact with conductors.
- Press the blue NCV button to enter NCV mode. The display will show 'NCV'.
- Move the top end of the multimeter (where the NCV sensor is located) close to the conductor.
- If AC voltage is detected, the meter will emit an audible beep and the NCV indicator light will flash. The frequency of beeps and flashes increases with stronger voltage.
5.4 Data Hold and Backlight
- Data Hold: During a measurement, press the blue H/* button briefly to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold.
- Backlight: Press and hold the blue H/* button for approximately 2 seconds to turn the display backlight on or off.
5.5 Current Measurement (A mA)
To measure current, the multimeter must be connected in series with the circuit. Always ensure the circuit is de-energized before connecting the meter for current measurement.
- Turn off the power to the circuit.
- Connect the black test lead to the COM jack.
- For currents up to 10A, connect the red test lead to the 10A FUSED jack.
- Break the circuit and connect the multimeter in series.
- Turn on the circuit power. The meter will automatically detect and display the AC or DC current.
- After measurement, turn off the circuit power, disconnect the multimeter, and restore the circuit.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the input terminals free of dirt and moisture.
6.2 Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries immediately to ensure accurate readings. Refer to Section 4.1 for battery installation instructions.
6.3 Fuse Replacement
If the current measurement function stops working, the fuse may need replacement. The 10A input jack is fused. Refer to the specifications for the correct fuse type and rating. Fuse replacement should only be performed by qualified personnel.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Meter does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity and replace batteries if necessary. |
| No reading or 'OL' (Overload) displayed. | Incorrect range, open circuit, or measurement exceeds range. | Ensure test leads are properly connected. Verify the circuit is closed. The meter is auto-ranging, but 'OL' indicates the value is beyond its maximum capability. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Low battery, dirty test leads/jacks, or external interference. | Replace batteries. Clean test leads and input jacks. Move away from strong electromagnetic fields. |
| Current measurement not working. | Blown fuse. | Replace the fuse (refer to Section 6.3). |
