3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
The multimeter requires two AAA batteries for operation. Follow these steps to install them:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the multimeter.
- Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw securing the battery cover.
- Remove the battery cover.
- Insert two AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw.

3.2 Connecting Test Leads
Properly connecting the test leads is crucial for accurate and safe measurements:
- Insert the black test lead to the "COM" (Common) jack.
- For most voltage, resistance, and continuity measurements, insert the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack.
- For high current measurements (up to 10A), insert the red test lead to the "10ADC" jack. Ensure the function switch is set to the appropriate current range.

4. Operating Instructions
Before taking any measurement, ensure the meter is properly set up and the test leads are connected correctly for the desired function.
4.1 Power On/Off
To power on the multimeter, rotate the central rotary switch from the "OFF" position to any desired measurement function. The meter will automatically power off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
4.2 DC Voltage Measurement (VDC)
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack.
- Rotate the function switch to the desired DC Voltage range (e.g., 200mV, 2V, 20V, 200V, 600V). Select a range higher than the expected voltage.
- Connect the test probes across the component or circuit to be measured, observing polarity (red to positive, black to negative).
- Read the voltage value on the LCD display.
4.3 AC Voltage Measurement (VAC)
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack.
- Rotate the function switch to the desired AC Voltage range (e.g., 200V, 600V). Select a range higher than the expected voltage.
- Connect the test probes across the AC voltage source.
- Read the voltage value on the LCD display.
4.4 DC Current Measurement (ADC)
Caution: Never connect the meter in parallel with a voltage source when measuring current. Always connect in series with the load.
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack.
- For currents up to 200mA, connect the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack. For currents up to 10A, connect the red test lead to the "10ADC" jack.
- Rotate the function switch to the desired DC Current range (e.g., 200µA, 2mA, 20mA, 200mA, 10A).
- Open the circuit where current is to be measured and connect the meter in series with the load.
- Read the current value on the LCD display.
4.5 Resistance Measurement (Ω)
Caution: Ensure the circuit is de-energized and all capacitors are discharged before measuring resistance.
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack.
- Rotate the function switch to the desired Resistance range (e.g., 200Ω, 2KΩ, 20KΩ, 200KΩ, 2MΩ).
- Connect the test probes across the resistor or component to be measured.
- Read the resistance value on the LCD display.
4.6 Diode Test
Caution: Ensure the circuit is de-energized before performing a diode test.
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack.
- Rotate the function switch to the diode symbol (→|─).
- Connect the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode.
- The display will show the forward voltage drop (typically 0.5V to 0.8V for silicon diodes). Reverse the probes; the display should show "OL" (Open Loop) for a good diode.
4.7 Continuity Test
Caution: Ensure the circuit is de-energized before performing a continuity test.
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack.
- Rotate the function switch to the continuity symbol (♫).
- Connect the test probes across the circuit or component to be tested.
- If there is continuity (low resistance), the meter will emit an audible beep. The display will show the resistance value. If there is no continuity, the display will show "OL".
4.8 Temperature Measurement
The DT 9205A supports ambient temperature measurement.
- Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack and the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack.
- Rotate the function switch to the "°C/°F" position.
- The display will show the ambient temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
To clean the multimeter, wipe the case with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is completely dry before use.
5.2 Storage
When the meter is not in use for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage to the device. Store the multimeter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your multimeter, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display or dim display | Dead or low batteries; Incorrect battery polarity. | Replace batteries with new ones; Check battery orientation. |
| "OL" (Overload) displayed | Measurement exceeds selected range; Open circuit (for continuity/resistance). | Select a higher range; Check circuit connections. |
| Inaccurate readings | Low battery; Incorrect range selected; Poor test lead connection. | Replace batteries; Select appropriate range; Ensure firm connections. |
| No continuity beep | Open circuit; High resistance; Meter not in continuity mode. | Check circuit for breaks; Ensure resistance is low; Set switch to continuity mode. |
