Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your Douk Audio Little Bear MC5 Mini Portable Stereo 4-Channel Passive Audio Mixer. The MC5 is designed to combine audio signals from up to four stereo sources into a single stereo output without requiring external power.
Product Overview
The Douk Audio Little Bear MC5 is a compact, passive audio mixer featuring four stereo input channels and one stereo output channel. It is ideal for mixing signals from various audio devices such as CD players, instruments, portable recording devices, and video playback devices.
Key Features:
- 4 Stereo Inputs, 1 Stereo Output: Connect up to four audio sources simultaneously.
- Passive Design: Operates without external power or batteries.
- Independent Volume Control: Each input channel has its own volume knob.
- Master Output Volume: A single knob controls the overall output level.
- Adjustable Input Impedance: Features a switch to select between 1K (default) and 4.7K impedance for optimal matching with different audio sources.
- Compact and Portable: Small footprint for easy integration into any setup.
Component Identification:

The top panel features five rotary knobs: four for individual input volume control (labeled 1, 2, 3, 4) and one for master output volume (labeled VOL). The side panels house the 3.5mm input/output jacks and the impedance selection switches.

The input and output connections are 3.5mm stereo jacks, suitable for common audio cables.
Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to set up your Douk Audio Little Bear MC5 mixer:
- Connect Audio Sources:
Connect your audio source devices (e.g., phone, computer, game console, instrument) to the 3.5mm input jacks (labeled 1, 2, 3, 4) on the side of the MC5 mixer using appropriate 3.5mm stereo audio cables. You can use one, two, three, or all four inputs.
- Connect Output Device:
Connect your audio output device (e.g., amplifier, powered speakers, headphones) to the 3.5mm output jack (labeled OUT) on the side of the MC5 mixer.
- Adjust Impedance (Optional but Recommended):
The MC5 features impedance switches (visible on the side, often red DIP switches). These switches allow you to select between 1K (default) and 4.7K impedance for each input channel. Adjusting the impedance can help optimize the signal match with your audio sources, potentially improving sound quality or volume balance. Experiment with both settings to find the best match for each connected device.

Figure 3: Detail of the impedance switches. These switches allow selection between 1K and 4.7K impedance for each input. - Initial Volume Settings:
Before playing audio, set all input volume knobs (1-4) and the master output volume knob (VOL) to their minimum positions (fully counter-clockwise).

Operating Instructions
- Power On Devices:
Ensure all connected audio source devices and your output device (amplifier/speakers) are powered on.
- Adjust Master Volume:
Slowly turn the master output volume knob (VOL) clockwise to a low listening level.
- Adjust Individual Input Volumes:
Play audio from one of your connected sources. Slowly turn the corresponding input volume knob (1-4) clockwise until you hear the audio at a desired level. Repeat this process for each active input channel.

Figure 5: Individual input volume knob. Each input has a dedicated control for precise level adjustment. - Mixing Audio:
Once all active input channels are set to a comfortable level, you can adjust the individual input volume knobs to create your desired audio mix. The master volume knob can be used for overall level adjustments.
- Impedance Adjustment (Fine-tuning):
If you notice a significant volume difference or slight distortion from a particular source, try adjusting its corresponding impedance switch between 1K and 4.7K. This can help match the output impedance of your source device to the input impedance of the mixer, optimizing signal transfer.
Note: As a passive mixer, the MC5 does not amplify signals. It may slightly reduce the overall volume level compared to direct connections. If you require higher output volume, an external amplifier (e.g., a headphone amplifier or pre-amplifier) connected to the MC5's output may be necessary.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the mixer. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the mixer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Handling: Handle the device with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.
- Connections: Ensure all cables are securely connected but do not overtighten. Periodically check connections for wear or damage.
Troubleshooting
No Sound or Low Volume:
- Check Connections: Ensure all 3.5mm cables are fully inserted into the correct input and output jacks.
- Volume Levels: Verify that all individual input volume knobs and the master output volume knob are turned up sufficiently. Also, check the volume levels on your source devices and output device (amplifier/speakers/headphones).
- Passive Nature: Remember that the MC5 is a passive mixer and does not amplify signals. If your source devices have low output levels or your headphones require significant power, you may need an external headphone amplifier or pre-amplifier connected to the MC5's output.
- Impedance Settings: Experiment with the 1K/4.7K impedance switches for each input. An incorrect impedance match can sometimes result in lower volume.
Distorted Sound or Noise:
- Volume Levels: Reduce the volume on your source devices, individual input knobs, or the master output knob. Overdriving the mixer or your output device can cause distortion.
- Cable Quality: Use high-quality, shielded 3.5mm stereo audio cables to minimize interference and noise.
- Ground Loops: If you experience a hum or buzz, it might be a ground loop issue. Try connecting all audio equipment to the same power strip or using a ground loop isolator.
- Impedance Settings: Adjusting the impedance switches might help reduce noise or improve clarity for certain sources.
- Environmental Interference: Keep the mixer away from strong electromagnetic fields (e.g., large power transformers, unshielded motors).
