2. Setup

This section details the steps required to set up your Videohub Smart Control Pro for operation.

2.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the main unit from its packaging. Inspect the device for any signs of damage during transit. The package should contain:

  • Main unit

2.2 Physical Installation

The Videohub Smart Control Pro is designed for rack mounting. Secure the unit into a standard equipment rack using appropriate screws. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.

2.3 Power Connection

The unit can be powered via two methods:

  • DC Power: Connect a compatible DC power supply (not included) to the DC input port on the rear of the unit.
  • Power over Ethernet (PoE+): Connect an Ethernet cable from a PoE+ enabled network switch or injector to the PoE+ Ethernet port on the rear of the unit. This method provides both power and network connectivity.

2.4 Network Connection

Connect the unit to your network via the Ethernet port. This connection is essential for communication with your Blackmagic Design Videohub router and for configuration via software.

2.5 Initial Configuration

Once powered and connected to the network, use the Blackmagic Design Videohub software (available for download from the official Blackmagic Design website) to discover and configure the Smart Control Pro. This software allows you to assign IP addresses, program button functions, and link the control panel to your Videohub router.

3. Operating Instructions

The Videohub Smart Control Pro is designed for intuitive and rapid routing operations.

3.1 Button Programming

Each button on the control panel can be programmed to represent a specific source or destination on your Videohub router. This programming is done through the Blackmagic Design Videohub software. You can assign a unique cross point (e.g., "CAM 1 to MON 1") to each button.

3.2 Performing a Route

To perform a route, simply press the button corresponding to the desired cross point. For example, if a button is programmed to route "CAM 1" to "MON 1", pressing that button will instantly make the connection on your Videohub router.

3.3 Using the "Take" Button

For more complex routing scenarios or to confirm multiple changes simultaneously, the "Take" button can be utilized. When multiple destination settings are configured, pressing the "Take" button will execute all pending routing changes at once, ensuring synchronized switching.

3.4 Multiple Destination Settings

The Smart Control Pro allows for advanced configurations where a single source can be routed to multiple destinations, or multiple sources can be routed to different destinations simultaneously, all managed through the programmable buttons and the "Take" function.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your Videohub Smart Control Pro.

4.1 Cleaning

Regularly clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or aerosol sprays, as these can damage the finish or internal components. Ensure the unit is powered off before cleaning.

4.2 Firmware Updates

Blackmagic Design periodically releases firmware updates that may include new features, performance improvements, or bug fixes. It is recommended to check the official Blackmagic Design website regularly for the latest firmware and software updates. Follow the instructions provided with the update package carefully.

4.3 Environmental Considerations

Operate the unit within its specified temperature and humidity ranges. Ensure proper airflow around the unit, especially if rack-mounted, to prevent heat buildup.

5. Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your Videohub Smart Control Pro.

5.1 Unit Not Powering On

  • Check Power Source: Ensure the DC power supply is correctly connected and providing power, or that the Ethernet cable is connected to a PoE+ enabled port and the PoE+ source is active.
  • Verify Cables: Inspect all power and network cables for damage or loose connections.

5.2 No Network Connectivity

  • Check Ethernet Cable: Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the Smart Control Pro and the network switch/router.
  • Network Configuration: Verify the IP address settings of the Smart Control Pro using the Blackmagic Design Videohub software. Ensure it is on the same subnet as your Videohub router and control computer.
  • Router/Switch Status: Check the status of your network switch or router to ensure it is functioning correctly.

5.3 Buttons Not Responding or Routing Incorrectly

  • Software Configuration: Re-check the button programming within the Blackmagic Design Videohub software. Ensure the correct sources and destinations are assigned to each button.
  • Videohub Connection: Confirm that the Smart Control Pro is properly connected and communicating with your Videohub router.
  • Firmware: Ensure both the Smart Control Pro and your Videohub router have the latest firmware installed.

5.4 Intermittent Operation

  • Power Fluctuations: Ensure a stable power supply. If using PoE+, verify the PoE+ source is consistent.
  • Network Stability: Check for network congestion or intermittent network connections.

If issues persist after following these steps, please refer to the Blackmagic Design support resources or contact their customer service.
