1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of your Proster RJ45 Crimping Tool Kit. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the tools to ensure proper function and to prevent damage to the equipment or injury. This kit is designed for crimping RJ45 and RJ11/RJ12 modular plugs onto Cat5 and Cat5e Ethernet cables.

3. Safety Information

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to properly crimp an RJ45 connector onto an Ethernet cable:

1. Strip the Cable: Use the included yellow stripper tool or the integrated stripper on the crimping tool to carefully remove approximately 1/2 to 3/4 inch (1.2 to 1.9 cm) of the outer jacket from the end of the network cable. Ensure not to cut or nick the inner wires.

2. Tidy and Untwist Wires: Untwist the eight individual wires and straighten them out. Arrange them according to the desired wiring standard (T-568A or T-568B). Most common network installations use T-568B.

3. Trim Wires: Once arranged, trim the ends of the wires straight and evenly, ensuring they are all the same length. The length should be just enough to reach the front of the RJ45 connector when inserted, with the cable jacket seated under the strain relief tab.
4. Insert Wires into Connector: Carefully insert the arranged wires into the RJ45 modular plug. Push firmly until the wires reach the front of the connector and the cable jacket is securely inside the connector's housing.
5. Crimp the Connector: Place the RJ45 connector into the 8P (8-pin) crimping cavity of the tool. Squeeze the handles of the crimping tool firmly and completely until the ratchet mechanism releases. This action pushes the pins down into the wires and secures the cable jacket.

6. Verify Connection: After crimping, inspect the connector to ensure all pins are properly seated and the wires are visible at the front of the plug. The cable jacket should be firmly held by the strain relief.
7. Add Connector Cover (Optional): Slide a blue connector cover over the crimped RJ45 plug for added protection and strain relief.

5. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Periodically clean the tool with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
• Lubrication: Apply a small amount of light machine oil to the pivot points and moving parts of the crimping tool if movement becomes stiff.
• Storage: Store the tools and components in a dry, clean environment to prevent rust and damage.
• Blade Inspection: Regularly check the cutting and stripping blades for sharpness and damage. Replace if dull or chipped to maintain precision.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while using the crimping tool kit, consider the following:

• Poor Crimp Quality: Ensure the wires are fully inserted into the connector and that the crimping tool handles are squeezed completely until the ratchet releases. Verify the correct crimping cavity (8P for RJ45, 6P for RJ11/RJ12) is used.
• Cable Not Stripping Cleanly: Check the stripper blade for wear or damage. Ensure the cable is properly seated in the stripper. Adjust pressure if possible.
• Network Connectivity Issues: Double-check the wiring sequence (T-568A or T-568B) against the standard. Ensure all wires are making contact with the pins inside the connector. A network cable tester can help identify faulty connections.
• Wires Not Reaching Front of Connector: The stripped wire length may be too short. Re-strip the cable with a slightly longer exposed wire section.
