Introduction
The Gillette Heritage Safety Razor Kit is inspired by the original 1929 Gillette double-edge razor, featuring all-metal construction with a classic chrome finish. It includes a closed comb design and a stylish handle with micro-engraving for improved grip. This 3-piece razor set is designed for a precise and comfortable shave.

Setup
Follow these steps to assemble your Gillette Heritage Safety Razor and load a blade:
- Disassemble the Razor: Hold the razor by the end caps on both sides of the guard. Twist the handle counter-clockwise until it separates from the cap and guard.
- Prepare the Blade: Carefully remove a new Gillette Platinum blade from its paper packaging, avoiding contact with the sharp edges. Place the blade on a stable surface.
- Load the Blade: While holding the cap in one hand, carefully position the blade onto the cap. Then, place the guard onto the blade and cap, ensuring the alignment pins fit into the blade holes.
- Reassemble the Razor: Return the handle to its original position by twisting it clockwise onto the cap and guard assembly until it is securely tightened.

Operating Instructions
For an optimal and comfortable shave, follow these guidelines:
- Skin Preparation: Prepare your skin by taking a warm shower or applying a warm towel to soften the hair. Consider using a pre-shave oil.
- Apply Lather: Apply your preferred shaving cream or soap to create a rich lather over the area to be shaved.
- Shaving Angle: Hold the razor perpendicular to your face, then slowly lower the handle to achieve a proper 30-degree shaving angle. The curved top of the razor head should gently contact your skin.
- Maintain Skin Tension: Use your free hand to gently stretch the skin taut in the direction opposite to your shaving stroke. This helps create a flat surface for the blade.
- Light Pressure: Hold the razor firmly but apply minimal pressure. The weight of the razor itself is often sufficient. Guide the razor smoothly over your skin.
- Shave with the Grain: Begin your shave by making short, choppy strokes in the direction of hair growth (with the grain). Rinse the blade after every few strokes to clear accumulated lather and hair.
- Adjust for Hair Type: For coarser or thicker hair, use shorter and choppier strokes, especially around the jawline and chin.
- Subsequent Passes (Optional): If a closer shave is desired, re-lather and perform additional passes across or against the grain, applying very light pressure.
- Rinse After Shave: After completing your shave, rinse your face with cool water to close pores.
Maintenance
Proper care ensures the longevity and performance of your safety razor:
- Rinse After Each Use: After every shave, thoroughly rinse the razor under running water to remove all soap and hair residue.
- Do Not Wipe Blades: To prevent dulling and damage, do not wipe the razor blades. Simply rinse and allow them to air dry.
- Storage in Travel Case: If storing the razor in its travel case, it is recommended to remove the blade from the cap/guard to prevent accidental cuts and ensure proper drying.
- Regular Blade Replacement: Replace blades regularly for optimal sharpness and to prevent skin irritation.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during use, consider the following:
- Nicks or Cuts: This is often due to excessive pressure or an incorrect shaving angle. Ensure you are holding the razor at approximately 30 degrees to your skin and letting the razor's weight do the work.
- Skin Irritation/Razor Burn: Ensure your skin is well-prepared with warm water and a good lather. Shave with the grain first. If irritation persists, try a different brand of blade or adjust your technique.
- Dull Shave: If the shave feels rough or pulls at your hair, the blade may be dull. Replace the blade with a new one.
- Difficulty Assembling/Disassembling: Ensure all parts are clean and free of debris. The handle should twist smoothly. Do not force components.
