Operating Instructions
RAID Mode Configuration
The ORICO 9558RU3-US supports various RAID modes. It is crucial to configure the RAID mode before initializing and formatting your hard drives, as changing RAID modes will erase all data on the drives.
There are two primary methods for RAID configuration: Manual Method (DIP Switches) and Software Manager Method.
Manual Method (DIP Switches)
This method uses the DIP switches located on the back of the enclosure. Refer to the diagram below for switch settings for each RAID mode.
- Ensure the enclosure is powered off and disconnected from your computer.
- Set the DIP switches on the back of the enclosure according to the desired RAID mode as shown in the table/diagram.
- While holding the "SET" key (usually a small button next to the DIP switches), power on the enclosure.
- Release the "SET" key once the LED light turns blue (or as indicated in the diagram).
- Connect the enclosure to your computer. The drives will now appear as a single logical disk (or multiple, depending on the mode) in Disk Management.
- Initialize and format the disk(s) through your operating system's Disk Management utility.

Figure 5: RAID mode settings via DIP switches and software interface.
| RAID Mode | Min. Disks | Max Capacity | Security | Speed | DIP Switch Settings (Example) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RAID 0 | 2-5 | N*N TB | Low | High | 1:OFF, 2:OFF, 3:OFF, 4:ON |
| RAID 1 | 2 | 100% | High | Middle | 1:OFF, 2:OFF, 3:ON, 4:OFF |
| RAID 3 | 3-5 | N-1N TB | Middle | Middle | 1:OFF, 2:ON, 3:OFF, 4:OFF |
| RAID 5 | 3-5 | N-1N TB | High | Middle | 1:OFF, 2:ON, 3:OFF, 4:ON |
| RAID 10 | 4 | 50% | High | Middle | 1:ON, 2:OFF, 3:OFF, 4:OFF |
| JBOD/Big | 2-5 | 100% | Low | Middle | 1:ON, 2:OFF, 3:OFF, 4:ON |
| Single Mode | 1-5 | 100% | Normal | Normal | 1:ON, 2:ON, 3:OFF, 4:OFF |
Note: N represents the capacity of the smallest hard drive in the array for RAID 0, 3, 5, 10. For JBOD/Big and Single Mode, it represents the full capacity of each drive.
Software Manager Method
For more advanced configuration or if you prefer a graphical interface, you can use the ORICO HW RAID Manager Software.
- Download and install the ORICO HW RAID Manager Software from the official ORICO website. (Refer to the image for typical software interface).
- Ensure the enclosure is connected and powered on.
- Launch the software. It should detect your enclosure.
- Select the desired RAID mode within the software interface.
- Confirm the changes. The software will guide you through the process.
- After configuration, initialize and format the disk(s) through your operating system's Disk Management utility.
Important: Always back up your data before changing RAID modes or initializing drives, as these operations will erase all existing data.
Data Transfer
Once the drives are configured and formatted, the enclosure will appear as a storage device on your computer. You can now drag and drop files, or use any file management software to transfer data to and from the enclosure.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the enclosure. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Ventilation: Ensure the enclosure's fan and ventilation holes are not obstructed to allow for proper airflow and heat dissipation.
- Drive Health: Regularly check the health of your hard drives using appropriate disk utility software.
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the ORICO official website for any firmware updates for your model to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.
- Safe Removal: Always safely eject the device from your operating system before disconnecting the USB cable or powering off the enclosure to prevent data corruption.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ORICO 5 Bay RAID Hard Drive Enclosure, please refer to the following common problems and solutions. For more detailed troubleshooting, consult the official Troubleshooting Guide (PDF) available on the ORICO website or via the link provided in the "Support" section.
- Enclosure not recognized by computer:
- Ensure the power adapter is securely connected and the enclosure is powered on.
- Verify the USB data cable is properly connected to both the enclosure and the computer. Try a different USB port or cable.
- Check Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) to see if the drives are detected but uninitialized or unformatted.
- Restart your computer and the enclosure.
- Drives not appearing after RAID configuration:
- Ensure the RAID configuration process (manual or software) was completed successfully.
- Check Disk Management/Disk Utility to initialize and format the newly configured RAID volume.
- Verify that all hard drives are properly seated in their bays.
- Slow transfer speeds:
- Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer. USB 2.0 ports will result in significantly slower speeds.
- Check the health of your hard drives. Degraded drives can impact performance.
- Ensure your computer's USB drivers are up to date.
- Enclosure powers off unexpectedly:
- Verify the power adapter is functioning correctly and connected to a stable power source.
- Ensure adequate ventilation to prevent overheating. Clean any dust from the fan or vents.
