3. Product Features
The Recaro J1 Select Child Seat is engineered with several features to enhance safety and comfort:
- Advanced Side Protection: Features large side protection for the head, shoulders, waist, and thighs, providing comprehensive impact absorption.

4. Setup and Installation
This child seat is installed using your vehicle's 3-point seatbelt. Follow these general steps for secure installation:
- Position the Seat: Place the child seat on the vehicle's rear seat, ensuring it sits flat against the vehicle's backrest.
- Route the Seatbelt: Follow the red belt guides on the child seat to correctly route the vehicle's 3-point seatbelt. The lap belt portion should pass through the guides near the child's hips, and the shoulder belt portion through the guide near the child's shoulder.
- Buckle and Tighten: Buckle the vehicle's seatbelt and pull the shoulder belt firmly to remove any slack. The child seat should be securely held in place with minimal movement.
- Check for Security: After installation, firmly push and pull the child seat at the belt path. It should not move more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) side-to-side or front-to-back.

5. Operating Instructions
Proper operation ensures your child's comfort and safety.
5.1 Adjusting the Headrest and Harness
- Locate the adjustment lever at the back of the headrest.
- Squeeze the lever and simultaneously raise or lower the headrest to the desired height. The shoulder belts will adjust automatically with the headrest.
- Ensure the shoulder belts are at or slightly above your child's shoulders.

5.2 Securing Your Child with the 5-Point Harness
- Place your child in the seat.
- Bring the shoulder straps over your child's shoulders and connect the two buckle tongues into the central buckle until you hear a click.
- Pull the harness adjustment strap at the front of the seat to tighten the harness. Ensure it is snug against your child's body, with no more than one finger fitting between the harness and your child's collarbone.

5.3 Transitioning to Junior Seat Mode
When your child outgrows the 5-point harness (typically above 18 kg or when their shoulders are above the highest harness slot), you can convert the J1 Select into a high-back booster seat.
- Unbuckle the 5-point harness.
- Store the harness straps and buckle tongues in the designated compartments within the seat. Refer to the seat's labels for exact storage locations.
- Ensure the headrest is adjusted to the correct height so the vehicle's shoulder belt rests properly across your child's shoulder, not on their neck or off their arm.
- Secure your child using the vehicle's 3-point seatbelt, ensuring the lap belt is low across the hips and the shoulder belt is centered on the shoulder.
5.4 Using the Cup Holders
The included cup holders can be attached to either side of the child seat. Simply slide them into the designated slots until they click into place.
6. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will prolong the life of your child seat.
- Fabric Covers: The fabric covers are removable and can be hand-washed with mild detergent and cold water. Do not machine wash, bleach, or tumble dry. Air dry completely before reattaching.
- Plastic Parts: Wipe plastic parts with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Harness System: Inspect the harness straps regularly for fraying or damage. Clean with a damp cloth. Do not lubricate the buckle.
- Storage: Store the child seat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues, refer to the following common solutions:
- Harness Twisting: Ensure the harness straps are flat and untwisted before buckling. The Recaro HERO system is designed to minimize twisting.
- Difficulty Adjusting Headrest: Check that the adjustment lever is fully squeezed. Ensure no fabric or debris is obstructing the mechanism.
- Loose Installation: Re-read the installation instructions carefully. Ensure the vehicle's seatbelt is pulled taut to remove all slack.
- Child Discomfort: Verify that the headrest and harness are adjusted to the correct height for your child. Ensure no clothing is bunched up under the harness.
If problems persist, contact Recaro customer support.
