4. Tools Required

The following tools are typically required for installation:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Drill with appropriate drill bits (for tile/fiberglass)
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil or marker
  • Plumber's tape (thread seal tape)
  • Level

5. Installation

5.1. Preparation

  1. Turn off Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve for your home or the specific bathroom and turn it off. Open existing shower faucets to drain any remaining water.
  2. Remove Existing Shower Arm: Carefully unscrew and remove your existing shower head and shower arm from the wall. Clean any debris or old sealant from the wall opening.
  3. Install Threaded Nipple: The kit includes a threaded brass nipple. Apply plumber's tape to the threads and screw it into the existing elbow inside the wall. Ensure it is securely tightened and extends sufficiently from the wall.

5.2. Mounting the Shower Column

  1. Position Upper Support: Place the upper support bracket over the newly installed threaded nipple. Mark the positions for the mounting holes on the shower wall.
  2. Drill Holes: Using an appropriate drill bit for your shower wall material (tile, fiberglass, etc.), carefully drill pilot holes at the marked locations.
  3. Install Anchors: Insert the provided wall anchors (e.g., Molly bolts) into the drilled holes. Secure the upper support bracket to the wall using the provided screws.
  4. Attach Column to Upper Support: Slide the main shower column onto the upper support. Ensure it is level and plumb.
  5. Position Lower Support: Mark the position for the lower support bracket on the shower wall, ensuring the column remains plumb. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to drill holes and secure the lower support bracket.
  6. Secure Column: Use the included set screws to firmly attach the shower column to both the upper and lower support brackets.

5.3. Connecting Shower Heads

  1. Attach Overhead Shower Head: Screw your desired overhead shower head (sold separately) onto the top outlet of the shower column. Hand-tighten, then use a wrench for a final quarter-turn, being careful not to overtighten.
  2. Connect Hand Shower Hose: Attach one end of the hand shower hose (sold separately) to the lower outlet on the shower column. Attach the other end to your hand shower.
  3. Test for Leaks: Slowly turn the main water supply back on. Check all connections for leaks. If leaks occur, tighten connections as needed.

6. Operating Instructions

The DELTA Emerge Shower Column features an integrated 3-way diverter, allowing you to control water flow to your overhead shower, hand shower, or both simultaneously.

  • Overhead Shower Only: Turn the diverter handle to the position that directs water solely to the overhead shower.
  • Hand Shower Only: Turn the diverter handle to the position that directs water solely to the hand shower.
  • Both Showers: Turn the diverter handle to the central position to allow water flow to both the overhead and hand showers.

7. Maintenance

To maintain the finish and performance of your shower column:

  • Cleaning: Clean the surface with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn spots, use a mild soap and water solution. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
  • Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Do not use abrasive cleaners, ammonia-based cleaners, bleach, or cleaners containing alcohol, as these can damage the finish.
  • Shower Head Nozzles: Periodically clean the nozzles of your shower heads to remove mineral buildup. Many DELTA shower heads feature Touch-Clean® nozzles for easy cleaning by simply wiping away mineral residue.
