7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Radio does not turn on | Batteries are dead or incorrectly installed. | Check battery polarity. Replace or recharge batteries. |
| Short battery life | Batteries not fully charged or old/worn out. | Ensure batteries are fully charged (recommended 24 hours for first charge). Consider replacing with new rechargeable batteries if performance degrades significantly. |
| Cannot communicate with other radios | Incorrect channel or privacy code. Radios too far apart or obstructions. | Verify both radios are on the same channel and privacy code. Reduce distance or move to an open area. |
| Static or unclear audio | Weak signal, interference, or squelch level too low. | Adjust squelch level. Move closer to the other radio. Avoid sources of electrical interference. |
| Keypad is locked | Keypad lock feature is active. | Press and hold the MENU button to toggle the keypad lock on/off. |
| Losing first few words when keying up | VOX sensitivity too low or radio takes a moment to activate transmission. | Increase VOX sensitivity or pause briefly after pressing PTT before speaking. |
