2. Safety Information
WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Installation should only be performed by a qualified electrician.
- Always disconnect power to the fixture at the circuit breaker before installation, inspection, or removal.
- Ensure the supply voltage is compatible with the bulb's specifications (120-277V).
- Do not attempt to modify the bulb or its components.
- Do not use with dimmers unless the existing ballast is compatible with dimming and the bulb is installed in Type A (ballast-dependent) mode. This bulb is not designed for dimming in Type B (ballast-bypass) mode.
- Do not install in fixtures where the operating temperature exceeds 113°F (45°C).
- This product is intended for indoor use only.
3. Product Overview
The Satco S8892-13 T8 LED Retrofit Tube offers an energy-efficient lighting solution. It is designed to replace traditional 32-watt T8 fluorescent tubes and provides flexibility with two installation methods: ballast-dependent (Type A) or ballast-bypass (Type B) direct wire capability.

Image 3.1: Overview of the Satco T8 LED Retrofit Tube, highlighting its compatibility and operational notes.
Key features include:
- Direct replacement for 32-watt T8 fluorescent tubes.
- Operates with compatible electronic ballasts (Type A).
- Can be direct-wired (ballast bypass) for single or double-ended configurations (Type B).
- Energy-efficient LED technology.
- Cool white light at 4000 Kelvin.
4. Installation
4.1. Before Installation
- Disconnect Power: Turn off power to the fixture at the circuit breaker. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Inspect Fixture: Ensure the fixture is in good working condition and free from damage.
- Remove Existing Bulbs: Carefully remove the existing fluorescent T8 tubes.
4.2. Type A (Ballast Dependent) Installation
This method utilizes the existing electronic ballast in your fluorescent fixture. Ensure your ballast is compatible with LED T8 tubes. Refer to the ballast manufacturer's compatibility chart for verification.
- With power disconnected, insert the Satco S8892-13 LED T8 tube into the existing lamp holders.
- Rotate the tube until it locks securely into place.
- Restore power to the fixture.
Note: Do not use this bulb with dimmers in bypass mode. If using with a ballast, check the ballast's specifications for dimming capability.
4.3. Type B (Ballast Bypass) Installation
WARNING: This installation method requires modification of the fixture's internal wiring and bypassing the ballast. This should only be performed by a qualified electrician.
This method involves removing or bypassing the existing ballast and directly wiring the lamp holders to the main power supply. The Satco S8892-13 supports both single-ended and double-ended wiring.
4.3.1. Single-Ended Wiring
For single-ended wiring, power is supplied to one end of the tube only. The other end acts as a non-powered support.
- Disconnect power at the circuit breaker.
- Remove the existing ballast from the fixture.
- Identify the 'live' and 'neutral' wires from the main power supply.
- Wire the 'live' and 'neutral' wires directly to the lamp holders on one end of the fixture. Ensure proper polarity if specified by the fixture.
- Ensure the lamp holders on the opposite end are not connected to power.
- Insert the LED T8 tube into the lamp holders, ensuring the powered end of the tube aligns with the powered lamp holders.
- Restore power to the fixture.
4.3.2. Double-Ended Wiring
For double-ended wiring, power is supplied to both ends of the tube.
- Disconnect power at the circuit breaker.
- Remove the existing ballast from the fixture.
- Identify the 'live' and 'neutral' wires from the main power supply.
- Connect the 'live' wire to the lamp holders on one end of the fixture.
- Connect the 'neutral' wire to the lamp holders on the opposite end of the fixture.
- Insert the LED T8 tube into the lamp holders.
- Restore power to the fixture.
5. Operation
Once properly installed and power is restored, the Satco S8892-13 LED T8 tube will illuminate instantly. There are no user-adjustable settings for brightness or color temperature on the bulb itself.
- Operating Temperature: The maximum operating temperature for this bulb is 113°F (45°C). Ensure the fixture environment does not exceed this limit.
- Dimming: This bulb is not designed for dimming in ballast-bypass (Type B) mode. If used in ballast-dependent (Type A) mode, ensure the ballast is dimmable and compatible with LED tubes.
6. Maintenance
The Satco S8892-13 LED T8 tube requires minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure optimal performance and longevity:
- Cleaning: Before cleaning, always disconnect power to the fixture. Use a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth to wipe the surface of the tube. Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the bulb.
- No User-Serviceable Parts: The LED tube contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open or repair the bulb.
- Replacement: Replace the bulb when its light output significantly diminishes or it ceases to function. Ensure power is disconnected before replacement.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Satco S8892-13 LED T8 tube, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Bulb does not light up. | No power to the fixture. | Check circuit breaker and wall switch. |
| Improper installation (loose connection). | Disconnect power, re-insert bulb firmly into lamp holders. | |
| Incompatible or faulty ballast (Type A). | Verify ballast compatibility. Consider ballast bypass (Type B) installation by a qualified electrician. | |
| Incorrect wiring (Type B). | Consult a qualified electrician to inspect and correct wiring. | |
| Bulb flickers or dims. | Incompatible ballast or dimmer (Type A). | Ensure ballast is compatible with LED T8 tubes and dimming. This bulb is not designed for dimming in Type B mode. |
| Loose connection. | Disconnect power, re-insert bulb firmly. | |
| Bulb is not as bright as expected. | Incorrect bulb for application. | Verify the bulb's lumen output (1900 lumens) meets your lighting requirements. |
