3. Setup and First Use
3.1 Unpacking and Initial Cleaning
- Remove all packaging materials and stickers from the appliance.

- Allow the water to run through completely.
- Discard the water and repeat the process once more with fresh water.
3.3 Setting Water Hardness (for Descaling Reminder)
The coffee machine has a descaling reminder function. For optimal performance, set the water hardness level according to your local water supply.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Brewing Coffee
- Fill the removable water tank with the desired amount of fresh, cold water. The tank has markings for cups.
- Insert a Melitta filter paper (size 1x4 or similar) into the filter insert.
- Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter paper. A general guideline is one level tablespoon of coffee per cup (125 ml).
- Close the swivel filter holder. Ensure the glass carafe with its lid is correctly placed on the heating plate.
- Adjust the AromaSelector dial to your preferred coffee strength (mild to strong).

- Press the ON/OFF button. The indicator light will illuminate, and the brewing process will begin.
- Once brewing is complete, the coffee machine will automatically switch to the keep-warm function.
- The appliance will automatically switch off after a preset time (e.g., 20, 40, or 60 minutes, depending on settings).
4.2 Using the Timer Function
The timer function allows you to program the coffee machine to start brewing at a specific time.

- First, set the current time:
- Press and hold the h button to set the hour.
- Press and hold the m button to set the minute.
- Prepare the coffee machine for brewing as described in section 4.1 (fill water, add filter and coffee).
- Press the TIMER button. The display will show "TIMER" and the previously set timer start time (or default).
- Use the h and m buttons to set the desired start time for brewing.
- Press the TIMER button again to activate the timer. The timer indicator will light up.
- The coffee machine will automatically start brewing at the programmed time.
- To cancel the timer, press the TIMER button until the indicator light turns off.
5. Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning and descaling ensure optimal performance and extend the lifespan of your coffee machine.
5.1 Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the appliance before cleaning.
- Remove the filter insert and glass carafe. Wash them with warm water and a mild detergent. They are also dishwasher safe.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Clean the heating plate with a damp cloth after it has cooled down.
5.2 Descaling
The CALC button indicator will illuminate when descaling is required. The frequency of descaling depends on water hardness and usage.
- Ensure the coffee machine is unplugged and cooled down.
- Remove any used filter paper and coffee grounds.
- Fill the water tank with a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions. Melitta recommends using its own descaling products.
- Place the empty glass carafe with its lid on the heating plate.
- Press the CALC button. The descaling process will begin.
- Allow the descaling solution to run through completely.
- After the descaling cycle, run two full cycles with fresh, cold water to rinse the machine thoroughly.
- The CALC indicator will turn off once the descaling process is complete and the machine has been rinsed.
5.3 Setting Water Hardness (Detailed)
To adjust the water hardness setting for the descaling reminder:
- With the machine off, press and hold the CALC button for approximately 3 seconds.
- The display will show the current water hardness setting (e.g., H1, H2, H3, H4).
- Press the h button to cycle through the hardness levels (H1 = soft, H4 = very hard).
- Once the desired hardness level is displayed, press the CALC button again to confirm and save the setting.
