3.2 Intel Socket Installation (LGA1700, 1200, 115X, 2011-3, 2066)
- Install the Intel backplate behind your motherboard, aligning it with the CPU socket holes.
- Secure the backplate using the appropriate washers and standoffs from the front side of the motherboard.
- Attach the Intel mounting clips to the pump unit.
- Apply thermal paste to the CPU if not already done.
- Carefully place the pump unit onto the CPU, aligning the mounting clips with the standoffs.
- Secure the pump unit with the thumb nuts, tightening them in a diagonal pattern until snug.
- Connect the 4-pin PWM cable from the pump to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard.

3.3 AMD Socket Installation (AM5, AM4)
- Remove the pre-installed black retention brackets from your motherboard around the CPU socket. Keep the original AMD backplate in place.
- Place the AMD spacers on top of the motherboard's original backplate screws.
- Attach the AMD mounting clips to the pump unit. Note that the mounting clips offer two positions: standard AM4 mounting and AM4 Ryzen 3000/5000 offset mounting for better hotspot alignment.
- Apply thermal paste to the CPU if not already done.
- Carefully place the pump unit onto the CPU, aligning the mounting clips with the spacers.
- Secure the pump unit with the provided screws, tightening them in a diagonal pattern until snug.
- Connect the 4-pin PWM cable from the pump to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard.

3.4 Radiator Installation
Mount the radiator and fans to an available fan mounting location in your PC case (e.g., top or front). Use the provided screws and flat washers to secure the radiator. Ensure proper airflow direction for optimal cooling (intake or exhaust, depending on your case's airflow design).

4. Operating Instructions
The ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 features an efficient PWM controlled pump and fans. The integrated 40mm VRM fan provides additional cooling for the voltage regulator modules (VRMs) on your motherboard, contributing to lower overall system temperatures. Connect the single 4-pin PWM cable from the pump to your motherboard's CPU_FAN header. Your motherboard's BIOS or fan control software will manage the pump and fan speeds based on CPU temperature, ensuring optimal cooling and noise levels.
5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Liquid Freezer II 280, periodic maintenance is recommended:
- Dust Cleaning: Regularly clean the radiator fins and fan blades to prevent dust buildup, which can impede airflow and reduce cooling efficiency. Use compressed air or a soft brush.
- Cable Management: Ensure all cables are neatly routed and not obstructing airflow within your PC case. The integrated cable management of the Liquid Freezer II helps minimize cable clutter.
- Coolant Check: As a closed-loop AIO system, the coolant does not typically require refilling. However, monitor for any signs of leaks or unusual noises from the pump.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280, consider the following:
- High CPU Temperatures:
- Check if the pump and fans are spinning. Ensure all cables are securely connected to the motherboard.
- Verify that thermal paste was applied correctly and evenly.
- Ensure adequate airflow in your PC case. Clean any dust from the radiator and fans.
- Confirm that the mounting pressure on the CPU is sufficient and even.
- Unusual Noises:
- Check for any cables or objects obstructing the fan blades.
- If the pump is making unusual noises, ensure it is running at an appropriate speed (check BIOS settings).
- Compatibility Issues:
- Ensure your case has sufficient clearance for the 280mm radiator, especially given its 38mm thickness.
- For LGA1700 compatibility, ARCTIC provides free mounting kits upon proof of purchase of a processor with an LGA1700 socket. Contact ARCTIC support for details.
