Setup and Installation

The Cumbor Baby Gate offers both pressure-mounted and hardware-mounted installation options. Choose the method best suited for your needs and wall type.

Pressure-Mounted Installation (No Tools Required)

This method is ideal for doorways, hallways, and open spaces where drilling is not desired. The gate is designed with a slight gap before installation, which disappears as pressure is applied.

Figure 2: Pressure-Mount Installation Detail. Simply rotate the tension bolt until secure within the opening.

  1. Measure your opening: The gate fits widths from 29.7 to 40.6 inches. Use extensions (B) if needed to fit wider openings.
  2. Insert the tension bolts (C) into the four corners of the gate. Ensure wall cups (D) are attached to the bolts. For rounded banisters, use the U-Cups (H) with the stair tension bolts (G).
  3. Position the gate in the desired opening.
  4. Rotate the tension bolts (C) by hand to increase pressure against the walls. Continue tightening until the gate is secure and the initial gap between the lock and door frame disappears.
  5. Use the provided wrench (L) for final tightening to ensure maximum stability.
  6. Once fully installed and secure, you may cut the zip tie that holds the gate frame together.

Hardware-Mounted Installation (Drilling Required)

For a more permanent and secure installation, especially at the top of stairs, hardware mounting is recommended.

  1. Place the gate in the desired location and mark the positions for the wall anchors (I).
  2. Drill pilot holes and insert the wall anchors (I) into the wall.
  3. Attach the wall cups (D) to the wall using screws (J).
  4. Insert the tension bolts (C) into the gate and align them with the installed wall cups.
  5. Tighten the tension bolts using the wrench (L) until the gate is firmly secured.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Cumbor Baby Gate.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the gate regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all screws, bolts, and locking mechanisms to ensure they are tight and functioning correctly. Re-tighten any loose components.
  • Lubrication: If the hinge or latch mechanism becomes stiff, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your Cumbor Baby Gate, refer to the following common solutions:

  • Gate feels loose: Re-tighten the tension bolts using the provided wrench. Ensure the wall cups are firmly against the wall surface.
  • Gate does not auto-close: Check that the gate is installed level and plumb. Ensure there are no obstructions preventing the gate from swinging freely. The auto-close feature works when the gate is opened less than 90 degrees.
  • Latch is difficult to operate: Ensure the gate is properly aligned. Apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the latch mechanism if it feels stiff.
  • Gap at the latch: This is normal before full installation. The gap should disappear once the tension bolts are fully tightened and the gate is securely installed.
