4. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials and components from the box.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Wash the glass carafe, permanent filter, and water reservoir lid in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  3. Charcoal Water Filter Installation: Submerge the charcoal water filter in cold water for 5 minutes. Insert the filter into the filter holder located in the water reservoir.
  4. First Brew Cycle (Cleaning Cycle): Fill the water reservoir to the MAX fill line with fresh, cold water. Do not add coffee grounds. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate. Press the 'Clean' button to initiate a cleaning cycle. This will flush out any manufacturing residues. Discard the water after the cycle is complete. Repeat this process once more for thorough cleaning.
  5. Placement: Place the coffee machine on a flat, stable surface, away from the edge of the counter. Ensure adequate clearance above the machine for steam to escape.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Brewing Coffee

  1. Fill Water Reservoir: Open the water reservoir lid and fill with fresh, cold water to the desired brew size indicated on the side of the reservoir.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the permanent filter or a paper filter (cone-shaped) into the filter basket. Add the appropriate amount of ground coffee using the provided measuring scoop. Refer to the recommended coffee-to-water ratios for best results.
  3. Select Brew Size: Use the MultiServe Dial System to select your desired brew size (e.g., 5 oz, 8 oz, 12 oz, 16 oz, 20 oz, Half Carafe, Full Carafe).
  4. Choose Brew Strength: Press the 'BrewChoice Plus' buttons to select your preferred strength:
    • Over Ice: For brewing concentrated coffee over ice.
    • Light: For a milder coffee flavor.
    • Gold: The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) certified standard for optimal flavor extraction.
    • Bold: For a stronger, more intense coffee flavor.
  5. Start Brewing: Place the glass carafe on the warming plate. Press the 'Brew' button to start the brewing process. The machine will automatically adjust water flow and temperature based on your selections.

Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting performance. The 'Clean' indicator light will illuminate when descaling is recommended.

  1. Prepare Solution: Mix 10 oz (295 ml) of white vinegar with 20 oz (590 ml) of cold water. Pour the solution into the water reservoir.
  2. Start Descaling: Place the empty carafe on the warming plate. Press the 'Clean' button. The descaling cycle will begin and typically takes about 45-60 minutes.
  3. Rinse Cycles: After the descaling cycle is complete, discard the solution. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water to the MAX fill line. Run two full brewing cycles with only water to rinse the machine thoroughly.

6.3 Charcoal Water Filter Replacement

Replace the charcoal water filter every 60 days or after 60 uses, whichever comes first, to ensure optimal water quality.
