Setup
1. Pedal Installation
- Ensure your crank arms are clean and the threads are free of debris.
- Apply a small amount of grease to the pedal threads.
- Identify the left (L) and right (R) pedals. The right pedal has a standard thread, and the left pedal has a reverse thread.
- Thread the pedals into the crank arms by hand, ensuring they start smoothly.
- Tighten the pedals securely using an appropriate pedal wrench. Refer to your crank arm manufacturer's specifications for torque settings.

2. Cleat Installation and Adjustment
The Keo Grip cleats are supplied with your pedals. Proper cleat positioning is crucial for comfort and efficiency.
- Attach the cleats to your cycling shoes using the provided screws and washers.
- Adjust the cleat position to align with the ball of your foot over the pedal spindle. Fine-tune fore/aft, lateral, and rotational positions for optimal comfort and to prevent knee strain.
- Tighten the cleat screws securely once the desired position is found.

3. Adjustable Tension
The Keo Classic 3 Plus pedals feature adjustable tension for clipping in and out. The tension can be adjusted between 8 and 12.
- Use a 3mm Allen key to adjust the tension screw located at the rear of the pedal.
- Turn clockwise to increase tension (firmer clip-in/out).
- Turn counter-clockwise to decrease tension (easier clip-in/out).
- Adjust both pedals equally and test the tension before riding.
Operation
Clipping In and Out
- To clip in: Place the front of your cleat onto the front lip of the pedal. Push down firmly with your heel until you hear a click.
- To clip out: Twist your heel outwards, away from the bicycle, until the cleat releases from the pedal. Practice clipping in and out in a safe, controlled environment before riding on public roads.
Pedal Performance
The Keo Classic 3 Plus pedals are designed for optimal cycling performance:
- Stainless Steel Contact Area: The pedal platform features a stainless steel contact area, enhancing pedal stiffness and improving power transfer from the rider to the bicycle.
- Comfort and Stability: With a 400 mm² surface area, these pedals provide a large and wide contact area, contributing to excellent pedaling stability and comfort during rides.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your pedals.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean your pedals and cleats with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the materials.
- Cleat Inspection: Regularly inspect your cleats for wear. Worn cleats can affect clipping performance and safety. Replace them when signs of significant wear are visible.
- Spindle Lubrication: While the pedals are designed for durability, occasional inspection and re-greasing of the spindle bearings (if accessible and recommended by LOOK) can extend their lifespan. Consult a professional bike mechanic if unsure.
- Tightness Check: Periodically check that the pedals are securely tightened to the crank arms and that cleat screws are tight.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Difficulty clipping in or out | Tension too high/low, worn cleats, dirt/debris | Adjust pedal tension (see Setup section). Clean pedals and cleats. Inspect and replace worn cleats. |
| Unusual noise from pedals | Loose pedals, dry bearings, cleat/shoe interface noise | Check pedal tightness on crank arms. If noise persists, consult a bike mechanic for bearing inspection/lubrication. Ensure cleats are tight on shoes. |
| Excessive float or play | Worn cleats, incorrect cleat type | Inspect and replace worn cleats. Ensure you are using compatible Keo Grip cleats. |
