1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your Klutch 10ft TIG Welding Torch. This torch is designed for DC TIG welding on steel and stainless steel when connected to compatible Klutch inverter-powered stick/TIG welders. Please read this manual thoroughly before operation to ensure proper setup, safe use, and maintenance.
2. Safety Precautions
Welding operations can be hazardous. Always follow these safety guidelines to prevent injury or damage:
- Electric Shock: Welding current can cause fatal electric shock. Ensure proper grounding and insulation. Never touch live electrical parts.
- Fumes and Gases: Welding fumes and gases can be hazardous to your health. Work in a well-ventilated area. Use an exhaust fan or fume extractor if necessary.
- Arc Rays: Arc rays can injure eyes and burn skin. Wear a welding helmet with appropriate shade lenses and protective clothing.
- Fire and Explosion: Welding sparks and hot metal can cause fires or explosions. Keep flammable materials away from the welding area. Have a fire extinguisher readily available.
- Burns: Hot metal and sparks can cause severe burns. Wear protective gloves and clothing.
- Read Welder Manual: Always refer to the instruction manual of your specific Klutch welder for additional safety information and operating procedures.

- Klutch model MP140Si 120V multi-process MIG welder (Item# 62502) - for DC TIG welding functionality
5. Setup and Connection
- Ensure Power Off: Before connecting or disconnecting the torch, ensure your welding machine is turned off and unplugged from the power source.
- Connect Power Cable: Locate the 35-70 style twist-lock connection on your Klutch welder. Align the torch's power cable connector with the corresponding receptacle on the welder and twist to secure it firmly.
- Connect Gas Hose: Attach the gas hose from the torch to the appropriate gas inlet on your welder or directly to your shielding gas regulator. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent gas leaks.
- Install Tungsten Electrode: Select the appropriate tungsten electrode size for your application. Insert the tungsten into the collet and collet body, then secure it with the torch cap. Ensure the tungsten extends approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch beyond the ceramic nozzle.
- Select Nozzle: Choose a ceramic nozzle (cup) size suitable for your welding task and securely attach it to the torch head.
- Prepare Shielding Gas: Connect your shielding gas cylinder (typically Argon for DC TIG on steel/stainless steel) to a regulator and set the flow rate according to your welding parameters.
6. Operating Instructions
Once the torch is properly connected and the welder is set up, you can begin TIG welding. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including a welding helmet, gloves, and protective clothing.
- Power On Welder: Turn on your Klutch welding machine and select the TIG welding mode.
- Set Welding Parameters: Adjust the amperage, gas pre-flow/post-flow, and other settings on your welder according to the material thickness and type of weld.
- Initiate Gas Flow: Use the gas on/off valve located on the torch handle to control the shielding gas flow. Open the valve to allow gas to flow before striking an arc.
- Strike an Arc: Carefully bring the tungsten electrode close to the workpiece. For lift-arc or high-frequency start welders, the arc will initiate as per your welder's instructions. Maintain a consistent arc length.
- Perform Welding: Guide the torch along the joint, maintaining a steady hand and consistent travel speed. Add filler rod as needed.
- Terminate Arc and Gas Flow: When the weld is complete, terminate the arc. Keep the torch over the weld puddle for the gas post-flow duration to protect the cooling weld from atmospheric contamination. Close the gas on/off valve on the torch handle.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your TIG torch.
- Inspect Cables and Hoses: Periodically check the power cable and gas hose for cuts, abrasions, or damage. Replace if necessary. The fabric zipper closure helps protect these components.
- Clean Torch Head: Remove any spatter or debris from the ceramic nozzle, collet, and collet body. Ensure gas passages are clear.
- Check Tungsten: Sharpen or replace the tungsten electrode as needed to maintain a proper arc.
- Inspect Connections: Ensure all electrical and gas connections remain tight and free of corrosion.
- Storage: Store the torch in a clean, dry environment away from extreme temperatures and moisture.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No Arc | Welder not powered on; poor ground connection; faulty torch connection; incorrect welder settings. | Check welder power; ensure workpiece is properly grounded; verify torch connections; review welder settings. |
| Inconsistent Arc / Poor Weld Quality | Contaminated tungsten; incorrect gas flow; improper amperage; dirty workpiece. | Clean or re-sharpen tungsten; adjust gas flow rate; verify amperage settings; clean workpiece thoroughly. |
| No Shielding Gas Flow | Gas cylinder empty or valve closed; regulator issues; gas hose kinked or disconnected; torch gas valve closed. | Check gas cylinder and open valve; inspect regulator; ensure hose is clear and connected; open gas on/off valve on torch. |
| Overheating Torch | Exceeding duty cycle; insufficient cooling (if applicable); prolonged high amperage use. | Allow welder to cool; reduce amperage or welding time; ensure proper ventilation around the torch cable. |
