Image 1: The ACTIV ENERGY Universal Battery Charger shown in its retail box. The charger is black with a slot for the battery and several indicator lights. The packaging highlights compatibility with 20V and 40V batteries and a 4.0 A charging current.
Indicator Lights:
- POWER ON/FULL (Green): Indicates the charger is connected to power and ready, or the battery is fully charged.
- CHARGING (Red/Orange): Indicates the battery is currently being charged.
- FAILURE (Red blinking): Indicates an error during charging. Refer to the Troubleshooting section.
- HIGH/LOW TEMPERATURE (Red): Indicates the battery temperature is outside the optimal charging range. Charging will resume automatically once the temperature stabilizes.
Setup
- Unpack: Carefully remove the charger from its packaging. Inspect it for any signs of damage.
- Placement: Place the charger on a stable, flat, non-flammable surface in a well-ventilated area. Ensure there is sufficient space around the charger for heat dissipation.
- Power Connection: Plug the charger's power cord into a standard 220V AC electrical outlet. The "POWER ON/FULL" indicator light should illuminate green, indicating the charger is ready.
Operating Instructions
Charging a Battery:
- Insert Battery: Slide a Ferrex 20V or 40V Lithium-ion battery into the charging slot on the charger. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
- Monitor Indicators:
- The "CHARGING" indicator light will illuminate (typically red or orange) to show that charging has begun.
- The "POWER ON/FULL" light will remain green.
- Charging Time: A fully discharged 20V or 40V battery typically takes approximately 45 minutes to fully charge. Actual charging time may vary depending on the battery's charge level and ambient temperature.
- Charging Complete: Once the battery is fully charged, the "CHARGING" indicator light will turn off, and the "POWER ON/FULL" light will remain green.
- Remove Battery: Press the release button (if present) on the battery and slide it out of the charger.
- Unplug Charger: For energy saving and safety, unplug the charger from the power outlet when not in use.
Note: The charger is equipped with protection features. If the battery is too hot or too cold, the "HIGH/LOW TEMPERATURE" indicator will light up, and charging will pause until the battery reaches an optimal temperature. If a fault is detected, the "FAILURE" indicator will light up.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from the power supply before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the charger. Do not use water or chemical cleaners.
- Storage: Store the charger in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Charger not powering on (no green light). | No power from outlet; loose connection; faulty charger. | Check power outlet with another appliance. Ensure power cord is securely plugged in. If problem persists, charger may be faulty. |
| Battery not charging (no red/orange light). | Battery not properly inserted; battery too hot/cold; faulty battery. | Ensure battery is fully seated. Allow battery to reach optimal temperature (10-40°C). Try charging a different, known-good battery. |
| "FAILURE" indicator light is blinking. | Battery fault; charger fault. | Remove and re-insert the battery. Try charging a different battery. If the issue persists with multiple batteries, the charger may be faulty. |
| "HIGH/LOW TEMPERATURE" indicator light is on. | Battery temperature is outside optimal charging range. | Move the battery and charger to an environment with an ambient temperature between 10°C and 40°C (50°F and 104°F). Charging will resume automatically once the temperature is suitable. |
