4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to properly install your Herdio passive outdoor speakers:
- Choose Location: Select a suitable location for your speakers. The versatile swivel brackets allow for flexible placement on walls or ceilings, both indoors and outdoors. Ensure the surface is sturdy enough to support the speaker's weight.
- Mounting Bracket Installation: Use the provided speed-lock mounting brackets. These brackets allow for vertical or horizontal mounting. Secure the U-bracket to your chosen surface using appropriate hardware (not included, as specific hardware depends on surface material).
- Attach Speakers to Brackets: Once the brackets are securely mounted, attach the speakers to the brackets. The speed-lock mechanism ensures a firm, anti-slip connection. Adjust the angle of the speakers as desired; the brackets allow for up to 120 degrees of motion, and the front face can rotate up to 90 degrees.
- Wiring Connections: These are passive speakers and require an external amplifier or receiver. Connect the speaker wires from your amplifier's speaker outputs to the binding posts on the back of each Herdio speaker. Ensure correct polarity: connect the positive (+) terminal on the amplifier to the red (+) terminal on the speaker, and the negative (-) terminal on the amplifier to the black (-) terminal on the speaker.

5. Operating Instructions
Once your Herdio speakers are properly installed and connected to an amplifier, operating them is straightforward:
- Power On Amplifier: Turn on your connected amplifier or receiver.
- Select Audio Source: Choose your desired audio source (e.g., streaming device, TV, radio) on your amplifier.
- Adjust Volume: Slowly increase the volume on your amplifier to a comfortable listening level. Avoid setting the volume too high, which can cause distortion and potentially damage the speakers or your hearing.
- Adjust Tone (Optional): If your amplifier has tone controls (bass, treble), you can adjust them to suit your preference. The Herdio speakers are designed for superior sound, featuring a 5.25-inch aluminum injection cone woofer and a 1.0-inch dome tweeter for balanced audio.

6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Herdio outdoor speakers, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Regularly wipe down the speaker enclosures with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the finish.
- Weather Protection: While these speakers are waterproof and designed for all-weather use, prolonged exposure to extreme conditions (e.g., direct heavy rain, snow, or intense sunlight) can still impact their lifespan. If possible, position them under eaves or in sheltered areas.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically check the speaker wires for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately to prevent short circuits or poor audio quality.
- Secure Mounting: Ensure that the mounting brackets remain securely fastened to the wall or ceiling. Tighten any loose screws as needed.

7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your Herdio speakers, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- No Sound:
- Ensure the amplifier is powered on and the correct input source is selected.
- Check all speaker wire connections at both the amplifier and the speakers. Verify correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
- Confirm that the volume on the amplifier is turned up and not muted.
- Test with another audio source or another set of speakers (if available) to isolate the problem.
- Distorted Sound:
- Reduce the volume level on your amplifier. Overdriving the speakers can cause distortion.
- Check speaker wire connections for loose strands or short circuits.
- Ensure the amplifier's power output matches the speaker's power handling capabilities.
- Adjust bass and treble controls on your amplifier to a neutral position and re-evaluate.
- One Speaker Not Working:
- Swap the speaker wires at the amplifier's output. If the problem moves to the other speaker, the issue is with the amplifier or its wiring. If the same speaker remains silent, the issue is with the speaker itself.
- Check the individual speaker wire connections for the non-working speaker.
